Celestial Retaliation by Digol
Welcome to the "Celestial Retaliation", a game where you will have to confront an army of enemy spaceships and their leader. Your task is to hold out as long as possible, destroying as many enemies as possible. Over time, your ship will receive improvements that will help you in battle, and don’t forget to catch first aid kits to repair your ship.
There are 3 types of enemy ships in the game, with different HP and damage characteristics
After destroying one enemy ship, their leader will retreat back, but if the leader touches you, your ship will be destroyed
Also, if you try to hide by flying up or down, your ship will be destroyed by the clouds
First aid kits appear every 12 seconds, don’t forget to catch them
Enemy shots can be destroyed by your shots, and enemy ships can be rammed, but this will take away your health points

Edit: Haven't discover that's your first game! That's way more astonishing!
The player's fighter movement feels a bit clumsy. I think 2 things could be improved:
- it lacks a bit in visual responsiveness/indication of movement. If you simply added an extra pair of sprites for it: one representing the ship tilted, say, 30 degrees on one side, and the other sprite for the same amount of tilt in the *opposite* direction, and then you swapped to the proper "tilted" sprite when the player moves up or down, it would bring the graphics to a next level of polish already.
- it's not easy to move a small distance without going further than intended. I'm not sure if it would work better with a controller/joysticks or if the implementation is intentional, but in my keyboard experience it felt impossible to slowly drift into being lined up with an enemy.
Good job on distinguishing the audio cues for player damage taken and enemy death so effectively! I never mixed the 2 up even when they started heavily overlapping.
Can this game be played in the browser?
PS: Title screen music was funky
Other than that, you guys did a good job on the first entry of Ludum Dare! Cheers!
The music seemed too calm, which doesn't quite fit such an action-paced game.
It also doesn't seem very logical/obvious to die from colliding with clouds, but let's assume these futuristic space ships can't handle turbulence.
