As an experienced Quantumnaut, you are comfortable handling a variety of weird situations. But accidentally separating yourself into dozens of component personalities, as a metaphysical black hole that spans across dimensions devours your ship?

That's new.

You've gotta get moving and reintegrate your clones so you can fix the ship and get BACK TO REALITY.

Notes: * If it doesn't respond, try clicking on the game window to give it keyboard focus * You need to follow the on-screen tutorial prompts, hold Shift if it's not responding at the beginning * Remember to click the Fullscreen button for MORE GRAPHICS!! * What's your high score? Mine is 100% completion with 106.33 seconds. Yes, it is possible to collect every clone and ship part. * Made in Godot Engine with entirely new assets * Source code is here: https://github.com/tkeene/backtoreality/tree/main

Controls: * Shift - Zoom Out * WASD - Move * Left Click - Issue Order (collect clones then click on objects) * Right Click - Cancel Order * E (while next to escape pod) - Escape * F12 - Reset

Known Bugs: * If you dismiss a group carrying an item, the item can land in the void and become stuck. As a workaround, you can get it un-stuck by repeatedly alternating ordering clones to pick it up and then recalling them. * It is possible to push items through obstacles. That's cheating.

Nice pikmin-style game! Took time to get used to the controls, but almost 100%-ed on the second try.
Music is suuper nice, props to your composer!

The space was not really that limited (maybe more about limited time?), but enjoyed the game a lot nonetheless :)

Very nice entry! I enjoyed the simplicity of the mechanics, the concept art and story, and all of the flavor text. The music was great, too! I'd love to see more pikmin-style games, and I think this one has a ton of potential. I got 7 and 21 in 121 seconds on my best run. Well done! :tada:

@nozomu57 Thank you! The theme "not enough space" is both the black hole crowding you out and not having enough space on your ship for all the clones. If you collect a lot of clones and few parts, the final card will mention that there wasn't enough seats on your ship. We had one additional stupid joke we were going to add to make it more obvious that you're collecting seats for your ship in the form of cylinder sections you snap into the middle of it to make it longer, but we had to cut it for time.

@bloodyaugust Thank you! Yeah, I think it could work with several more levels like this and a few more mechanics.

Absolutely love this game! I love how time management was used with the limital space, and the music goes perfectly with it. Great Job!

Cool game. The staccato clones teleporting as they follow you was a really nice visual effect. The intro sequence and music were wonderful too. Can't really think of anything you could do better in this version.

@koboldskeep oooh I see! Did not manage to get enough clones to get to "limited space on the ship" part. Guess I need to re-visit the game and change a couple of ratings then! :D

@andrei-gusan Interesting. I'll have to let the black hole grow to that point to see whether it causes issues. At that point you're getting sucked into the black hole anyways, so it should direct you to a game over screen with a prompt to press F12 to restart.

I was not expecting Pikmin when I saw this game, but boy was that a pleasant surprise. The fast paced, rogue-like nature of the game is really well done too. The concept was pretty humorous too.

Very nice game. Engages the player very well. Very little time to squeeze a story and a game together. Nice work with the concept art.

Man I moved this game! I kept playing until I finished it. The game was really well balanced. Obviously it all came down to where you went first and you had to do things in the correct order, but it wasn't impossible or easy. I loved how it seemed to slow down when you zoomed out which was nice so you could see where you were at. Definitely one of my favorites this jam. Well done!

Really nice entry, one of the most smooth and fun I've played so far. A nice touch with the personalities of the different clones making little quotes. Top points for graphics and also nicely related to the theme. One small QoL suggestion: I found the audio a bit loud for my headphones and couldn't see a volume control anywhere, so that could be something to consider adding (unless I'm just dumb and couldn't find it).

The isometric graphics remind me of Crusader: No Remorse for DOS, and I dug the Pikmin-esque ordering of minions. It's also quite challenging. I'm going to need to try a few more times to get all the parts. Hopefully this game will be expanded upon with more levels and a menu system.

For the highscore: 7/8 parts and 25/31 selves in 138,22 seconds.

It took me a little to get the sense of the game, but then I enjoyed it. I think it might use a little less clones around (to get more of a strategy in how to use them) and maybe a bit more obstacles before getting to the ship, so as to make it more challenging to save yourself. All in all, a pretty solid entry!

@tommy Thanks! Yeah, I think the main problem is that you can stack all of your clones on one task and they finish it lightning-quick and teleport right back to you. Pikmin only lets you do that in versus battles, and most carryable objects have minimum and maximum numbers required for moving them.

@killerb Yeah, we decided to go with the isometric view for the 90s look and we're glad it turned out looking so good. We've considered adding more levels, but we've got many other projects that are higher-priority right now.

@destroyertech The clone personalities were Alan Bahr's idea. Did you know he writes TTRPG Books?

@draekdude Glad you enjoyed it!

@a1stakesauce Thank you!

@ismael-rodriguez Dandori is fun. Dandori is a good time. Dandori should take up all your time.

@the3rdhunter Thanks! Animatrix1490 made the music.

@raptorspank I spent some time fiddling with the level layout and the speed of the black hole to make sure it was oppressive but still felt fair. Everybody's reaction to the black hole sucking up a chunk of the level was priceless.

How people manage to make such well rounded games in 72h always amazes me. I especially love the touch of the drawn intro cinematics. So far I've gotten up to 7/8 parts in a run, but I hope to improve. Amazing job :smile:

@edgeboyo It helps that we had a programmer, artist, and writer on the team. Also, Godot is FAST.

@sad-studios Thank you!

@cdunham Glad you liked it. :D

Wow, first time I see a Pikmin-like game as a gamejam entry, that was pretty ambitious. The game is a bit rough around the edges but I think it works great and it's engaging enough to want to do another try and make a better score. I really dig the music also, for some reason it was not looping though. Nice entry!

Oh wow a Pikmin styled game! This was insanely cool! Took a few tries to get it down and every time I got a little bit better and better at beating the world. Nice little cutscene at the start, excellent music to set the mood, really well polished, fantastic work! <3
