made by Javid Ladhani for Ludum Dare 54 (JAM)

Enter the darkness in Waylight! In this gripping first-person game, you drive an extraordinary locomotive through haunted and unforgiving landscapes. You only have a limited amount of fuel to keep the lights on, while outside the train you must search for essential resources. But be wary, for the darkness harbors cunning creatures and terrifying shadows that constantly test you. Survival in this world depends on your courage and perseverance. Do you dare to enter the fray?

Controls: WASD to move. E to interact. Mouse to look around and shoot.

Your light radius is bound to your fuel. So keep your fuel stocked to see far.

This was sick! It reminded me of Choo Choo Charles when I launched it. The music sets the tone nicely and the atmosphere was great. The little monsters are relentless and the game is tough but I enjoyed it, nice job! :)

That was awesome! I could tell tons of work went into the creatures and audio. Artwork and mood are where this game shines the brightest. Pacing was also nice. Great entry!

Uuuh I loved it! Struggled a bit with managing stuff, but I really see a great wishlist material ;D

This game is so good!
I love this atmosphere. I wish I could rate it. I didn't submit a game this time unfortunately.

The atmosphere of Waylight truly captured me. The haunted locomotive concept was both unique and chilling. The tension from keeping the lights on and fending off dark creatures was palpable. The audio set an eerie mood, making every moment thrilling.

Really great concept and implementation. It's very immersive, I really felt the darkness in my bones when I needed to venture out and grab more wood! I felt the monsters' model and sfx were a little too wacky compared to the rest of the tone of the rest of game, but other than that everything was well polished and engaging. Awesome job!

I'm still using Windows 7, I know I know. There was an error at the time of installation and even after installing the direct x that the program suggests, it gave an error. Unfortunately I couldn't play this one![Sem título.jpg](///raw/1b4/23/z/5fe6c.jpg)

@lincolnsalles too bad you could not play the game. I do not have a Windows 7 test environment but a quick google show more people having issues with Unreal Engine 5 on Win7. Try running in admin or adding -SkipBuildPatchPrereq when launching the .exe. Thanks for trying anyway :)

Excellent atmosphere! The graphics are very nice, the music is perfect and the sounds are also nice (like already mentioned, the monsters were a little wacky, but creepy nevertheless).

I don't see much to criticize here, but here goes:
- There are little bugs here and there - for example, when I died, I could still shoot. Same story with the main menu.
- There could be at least a tiny amount of ambient light. When I ran out of fuel, I could barely turn around and pick some wood to refill it, because I was literally blind.
- Health maybe deteriorated a little bit too quickly when in the darkness. Also, it seemed weird that it continued to deteriorate when I was inside a lit wood supply spot. Why did I need to return to the train to refill when there was light around me anyway?

Other than that, I enjoyed it very much, great job! This is one of my favorite entries this LD.

I really liked this entry! The gameplay loop was fun, and fit the spirit of the jam well. The environment past 1000m was a very nice unexpected detail.

The main bit of feedback I have is that it felt fairly easy to get stuck on the side of the train - there were a few heated moments where I was struggling to jump up onto it

Really well done, surprisingly tense! Even after becoming familiar with the monsters, their timing and sound effects would still freak me out. Nice work!

Just by reading the comments, I wanted to try this game but it only has the windows build. Wished there was a linux build :penguin: :video_game:

Awesome entry and one of - if not - the best I played so far, I really enjoyed it. Amazing athmosphere and the whole concept is just well done, very good job of you and your team!
