Have fun either dying of hunger or succumbing to space rocks! MatR is a real-time engine-builder/tower-defense game where you extract resources, conduct research, and build defensive turrets in a few slots on the Earth. Comes with a tech tree and increasing difficulty.

Use UP/DOWN, LEFT/RIGHT arrows to manipulate game. LEFT/RIGHT generally rotate the Earth or change between build options. UP/DOWN toggles modes. Holding DOWN will build the selected building (provided the prerequisites are met). Holding UP on certain buildings will Harvest their resources.

Due to time limits, I couldn't get any audio in there. Sorry.

Really enjoyed this game! I had a hard time at first but once I figured out what was happening it was really fun. I enjoyed when the camera pulled back to the asteroid defense minigame for the first time. Original and fun, nice job!

Lots of mechanics in a compo game, ambitious and it paid off. I don't worry too much about sound anyway. GG

Nice game. You managed to get a lot done in the time you had. Instructions were easy to follow. Good job.

The asteroid defense is a fun juggle with the city management, i do wish i had auto food options though!

pretty good game, I'm not a fan of tower defense but it was satisfying to play. :)

I really like the idea but found it hard to get into. I died about 3 times before realising I had to manually harvest food. I also did not realise you could rotate the planet during the meteor defence for awhile (I tend to just jump into games and only read the descriptions if I can't figure them out).
A low-hanging fruit improvements I can think of is to put symbols over the buildings so they're easier to identify at a glance, especially from the zoomed out view. The flag for the empty spaces do this and are good.

I'm a fan of tower defense 😄, and I like the concept and the fact that it is completely controlled via arrow keys. I would suggest adding WASD as a second option because, for me, it's just more ergonomic, and I'm used to moving with WASD. I also died 2 times, the first time I was done reading the tutorial and figuring out how to buy stuff, and a second later, it was game over. Then I didn't see the arrows for harvesting, only after reading the comments above did I realize. I think with a bit more sound and polish, this can be a fun little game :)

Neat idea. I like the back and forth rhythm of the meteor showers and the resource management. Some of the mechanics confuse me a bit, though, like I don't quite see what the incentive is to create more houses, for example. I also ran into two issues:
- After losing and restarting, some of the planet's state was carried over into the next round, like crater and building positions.
- After playing for a little while, the game will sometimes get stuck in the "asteroid defense" mode with no asteroids on screen. I think it's maybe triggered by getting hit by too many asteroids? I had a strategy for a little bit where I would invest no resources into turrets and just rotate the planet so asteroid impacts always landed on an existing crater.

The screen ratio made me decrease the browser zoom to see the whole screen.
Even if I run it in a full-screen mode, it's not scaled properly.
Is it a web-export issue?

The game looks great, and I love what you did with the controls, where everything is handled with the arrow keys, even the post-game summary, that's very elegant

I like the game and its control. But after a momment I discovered that keeping the crater facing rocks is much easier than defending XD.

I'm having this weird glitch where I can't build anything. When I hold down arrow it goes half way and then resets.

This is pretty impressive for a compo game. I found a glitch where if you lose and restart very fast the planet is out of screen

A bit too complicated for me, a slow start would be cool. I really like your concept of interlinked ring menus!

I was pretty blow away by this ! The game is good and I like the idea of an earth saving situation... The game puts things in perspective. The game is easy to understand, it took me a few tries dying before I understood what I was doing wrong and know what mechanic cause it, but I kept wanting to come back. Really nice submission. Big GG to you ! :)

This is so so cool! I love how all of the menus are based around the rotation of the game. It's a unique language for this game. I had a super hard time feeding my people ? 1 house produces people so so so quickly 😵
