Bearrow by LoparPanda

[raw]
made by LoparPanda for Ludum Dare 54 (JAM)

Protect the Honey Grail from Zombears, armed with only your trusty bow!

A mixture of survivors and tower-defense style gameplay, on a little playing field.

Controls

Best played with Keyboard+mouse or Gamepad

WASD / Left Analog stick, D-Pad - Walk/strafe

Right Analog stick, Mouse - Look around

Left trigger/L2 (hold)/RMB - Draw your bow. You can keep this held to automatically draw a new arrow when ready. Release it early if you don't want to fire.

R1/LMB - Fire an arrow!

L1/MMB - Switch between left and right shoulder camera.

Note on theme

My original plan was to have this take place in a very tiny castle, where there would be small hallways and other tight spaces to defend. In the end I didn't have time to build a whole castle, go figure! So I did submit this with my test map, which is still relatively small for a survivors-ish game, but not quite as closely aligned with the theme as I think I could have achieved with the tiny castle environment. If I get to spend more time on this that's one of the things I'd like to continue working on.

Nicely done. Enjoyed the low poly graphics. Little weird the vertical sensitivity seemed different/much faster than vertical sensitivity.

Thanks a bunch for playing my game and for the feedback! Definitely agree on the sensitivity differences. I'm still not sure it's 'right', but my latest last-minute version does have some tweaks to the sensitivity, as well as being generally faster paced overall. LMK what you think! :)

The camera movement felt really smooth! The bow animation was nice too. Wish there were more gameplay content. Good job!

Bear on Bear violence. Upgrade scaling made it hard to lose which eventually caused performance issues. Well done solid execution.

Why are the green bears committing mass suicide?
The low-poly bears are charming. Shooting arrows feels fun and I like how the arrows stay stack in the enemies and how they tumble around when hit. The enemies don't seem to be doing any harm, so the game ends only when you get tired of it.

I really like the archery idea. The mechanics seem quite solid, and the low poly graphics very cute. Even if HUD and UI has been kept minimal as in the context of the jam, the progression is made clear and engaging. Good job!
