however, the gameplay itself was rather lackluster, I found that the best strategy was to let everyone else die and to run around barricading myself in rooms as long as I could, this was partly due to me not understanding how combat worked.
also the music was pretty good to start off with, but as the game dragged on the music became droning and hard to listen to due to it being a short loop..
overall pretty solid!
Apocalypse Mall, first of all, has probably the most banging soundtrack I've heard in a Ludum Dare game, possibly ever. I have the game open in another tab as I write this review - I'm jamming to it as I write. Don Juan has some serious musical chops, and the art he made is noticeably pretty as well.
Speaking of having the game open in another tab, though: the way the pathfinding was programmed makes it pretty hard to lose this game, as enemies can frequently get stuck when trying to attack your players. The hunger mechanic means you can't just hide in a cheap corner the entire game, but it's still very much exploitable for the player's advantage.
Lovely work!
cool idea over all, if it was very polished it could be super cool
idk if the zombies got stuck or they take forever to break the barricades..
Nice pixel work, great soundtrack. Don and Tony - great work rolling this out in 72 hours in a new engine. Lightyears beyond where I would be in Godot.

Also the barricade system was a bit too easy, as I could set down a bunch of barricades at once and camp out there, I suggest letting it so that only one survivor make a barricade at a time so it's not all overlapping!
Other than that, a great take on the theme and has a ton of potential, I could see it being even more interesting to manage multiple survivors that have different roles or stats!
Can zombies brake barricades ? I could have just finish with one guy hiding behind a whole bunch of them if not one zombie glitch through my setup :/
