In Search of Space by helluin

1920-1080-max.png

Earths overpopulation has reached a critical level and the space for humanity is limited. Our character Jessica Moore is a scientist on a mission to find a new habitable planet. During her research on another planet, she got trapped in a mystical cave. The goal of the game is to find something to get out of the cave.

The more items you collect the higher your score at the end is. However, you can only carry one item at the time since you don’t have any backpack with you (limited space u know 😉). There are some items which can upgrade your light and a generator which can pump water.

Movement: WASD

Jump: Space

Interact: E

@anthonich It works on mine.

Game is cool, the sound is really low. Hard to understand what to do with all the things you find, and you have to come back all the time to your chest making the game repetitive.

I really liked the art! The ambience light and sound is well put together. But the core gameplay is a bit repetitive, too much go forth and back. Also, it's not clear what the generator is for. The story is actually good, considering the length of the game

The use of limited space in the game is really good, but it does sometimes make the core gameplay drag a little bit. Love the ambience and the art style! Well done!

Cute art style! I'm not sure if it was a bug on my end, but the player light was flashing on and off while I was playing and it made the game feel a bit harsh on the eyes. I feel the inventory capacity could have probably been increased a bit, I also echo the concerns with the back and forth.

Great game, cute art style and the level was pretty far built out. Everything for me mechanic wise worked pretty well. Only wish inventory was slightly bigger. Great job.

Friendly correction at the very end of your plot, should be written "has begun" :)
Good game overall, I especially like the physics behind the moving and jumping. It's very satisfying to move and jump around, and feels easy to handle. Nice little plot !

I really enjoyed the controls and the movement of the character, the graphics very especially mesmerizing. I was able to locate and detonate the TNT and it crashed my browser, but I think it still counts as a win. Beside this you did a great job, good work!

very spooky game. the mood is 5 stars! It is a little bit too dark to see the platforms. but overall a great entry.

Beautiful art style and nice story! A lot of love went into it.

However, the light flashing on/off was quite a deterrent (is that intended?) and the walking back and forth felt a bit tedious after a while. Could have used a tiny bit more depth/puzzling, but overall definitely great achievement in a game jam :)

Cute game, sadly, the game creashed just when I activated detonator :/ But I enjoyed gameplay, it was relaxing and involving!

I did my best but the light flashing on and off constantly is too distracting, so I had to stop after collecting just one or two things. Is there a way to turn it on and leave it on?

Cute game sadly the chest didnt really work for me i had to spam the E key to get it to open. But great game jumping feels great which is a big plus in these types of platformeresque games.

@cheesepencil There is a way to upgreat the generator with that you should be able to move further away from the generator without the lights flashing

The game looks nice, but I am not able to interact with anything. E key just does nothing.

Neat world building, art and sound design. It's immersive and easy to follow. The gameplay is alright, very simple and straightforward. Off the top of my head, the coal deposits could be more spread out, and tnt could allow you to make shortcuts to make the walk shorter.

Really nice-looking game and great have some story bits to connect with the gameplay.
Would've been nice to unlock some shortcuts or new tools as you play since currently you mostly repeat going from starting point to another point, then back to start.

Still this was great for a jam game, congrats on submission!

The art and story is nice, it's quite atmospheric. I think the game could've benefitted with stronger level design (there's too much backtracking, and as others have pointed out, including shortcuts could reduce the amount of backtracking). The platforming is decent, good job!

The atmosphere was beautiful. I think improving the player controller could improve the overall feel, f.e.g. adding the option to jump higher if you hold the jump button longer. Also it was also a bit frustrating to travel back all the time with the one resource you collected.
But in general I really loved the game. Especially the sound design was beautiful.

Cool game! I had some trouble with the light blinking every second (html version) it was really annoying and taxing on my eyes, I almost quit there. I liked the visuals and the mood, the jumping is a bit floaty but works well enough, I think the level design could be improved with a few shortcuts to open or things like that, so you don't take the same path every time you come back to camp. I didn't really understood how to upgrade my lamp or the reason I needed to fuel the generator. I stumbled upon the tnt by chance more than anything. Anyway, except those remark, I enjoyed the game, keep up the good work!

Amazing game! The graphics are so well-executed, establishing a spectacular atmosphere throughout. The light and gentle music further elevates this mood even more. The level design has been thoughtfully crafted. I played on Debian GNU/Linux and would love to see a fullscreen option or button to fully maximize the immersive experience. A tremendous game and a remarkable entry, congratulations!

I was a bit confused at this one but I appreciate the effort that has gone into it. My light kept flashing on and off and E didn't seem to do anything? Great mood and graphics though!

There seems to be a graphic and sound atmosphere, but the gameplay and level design I found confusing. Right at the beginning there seem to be many paths, items, I don't know where to go. There doesn't seem to be an indication of where to go, but I know that time is short for more elaborate level design. The game is very heavy, the graphics seem not optimized, it crashes a lot here in the browser. But I really appreciate the original graphics and concept art. I didn't understand where I had to take the blue crystal. It keeps popping up to press E and when I press it nothing happens.

The art is very cute; the cave mood was well done with the glowing mushrooms, the sound changing when you get in the water, etc... The gameplay on the other hand felt a bit repetitive with all the going back and forth - I know, it's because of the theme, but still...

BTW I saw people on the comments confused about the "E" button not doing anything. I think when you show a button prompt it's better to make it do something, anything, even if it just shows some text like "Uh, I should put valuable stuff here", or "If I had some fuel I could make this generator work". Otherwise the player may thing there's a problem with the game inputs.

PS: I accidentally killed the yellow thing on my second playthrough, sorry yellow thing 😅
