What do I do?

Test your reaction skills and try to get through the Temple of the Abyss! Whatever you do, don't touch the walls! They seem to be moving...

Controls

A | D or Left | Right Arrow Keys: Move

Space: Dash forward

R: Restart game

Q: Quit

Known bugs

  • You can spam the dash button, but it won't really do you any good (and can crash the game)
  • Score calculations are sometimes inaccurate, and this seems to happen after 1K points
  • If you somehow die while reaching the goal, the game will crash

Other Info

There are 40 "levels", but they are all visually the same with randomness applied to the bridge spawn location and speed of the closing walls. If you die on a level, you'll restart that level with the base score of 100. There are score bonuses to earn to max your pointage! Share your final score and feedback below!

Great take on the theme!

I feel like the walls close in pretty slowly. But I found myself trying dash across being as close as possible to the wall to push that difficulty.

levels felt pretty much identical but overall enjoyed :metal: music slaps

This was definitely an interesting game! I think that you could benefit from some level variation, even though I know that seems unintuitive for a reaction game like this, but maybe making the player make multiple quickdraws in a row without a break as you progress could be interesting! Regardless, i liked it, good job!

This game is quite good to be on mobile game than a PC game, short, straight forward and not convoluted.

I liked the vibe a lot. Would play on my phone while waiting for the bus.

I also thought that eventually we were gonna get multi-platform dash challenges, which I would have enjoyed and could have extended the longevity for quite a while I think.

I think I got to like level 20 and I only stopped bc the game crashed tbh. (I didn't really care about my points, it was just satisfying to dash)

The sprite work and audio was very clean. Adding some other element for you to react to could make the gameplay more engaging as the game does get a bit stale after 30+ levels. I do agree though that this could be a great mobile game.

Simplicity is everything. Well suited to the theme, cool sound. Apart from the bugs you already indicated, I went up to number 20. But after a while it's all the same, although there are the variations you mentioned. But I think it's a good entry and very effective. Sounds like a mobile game idea.

Nice work! I love the graphic style and its coherence. I think the framework can be a really nice start for some later adaptions like make it more fluent by making long stages which may need several dashes and dashes towards diffent directions, or becoming a rhythm game. Though the levels are repeated, it is quite impressive as a solo jam outcome!

I'd love to see more content here! Longer, confusing levels mixed together would make for a nice change of pace as well. The art style fits the game amazingly so like old retro games.

I like it. Very bare-bones, but still fun. The simple style works well and I like the sound. It got a bit tedious and same-y after a couple levels, would've enjoyed if the speed significantly increased the further you got.

Fun idea that I wish had more variation on it. Art is sleek and music is anxiety inducing(good thing). Also liked how juicy it is.

I loved the aesthetic, mood, and music. It was a bit unclear how the score was calculated and what happened when you died, and then I restarted from level 1 after a while for some reason I didn't understand. I would like it if you needed to hit space to continue to the next level so you could pause and read your score before continuing.

Gameplay wise one is able to dash before the side movement finishes if you press dash too early, which results in a dash that is not where you wanted to. As the movement is discrete I assumed that the dash would wait until the movement was finished; i.e. that the dash input is queued. As it is a reaction based and fast paced, that would be better I think.

All in all a great experience, good job!

very repetitive gameplay takes away from this the most, but the visual design alongside the audio and music are great! just doesn't truly make up for the gameplay imo

I like the sound and visuals, it's a very well polished entry! I appreciated the level bonuses that added a bit more incentive to act quickly. I'd like to see where you would take this if you were to add more difficult challenges!

The minimalist presentation is very strong here. As people have said the gameplay is a little *too* minimalist, but I can imagine ways you could expand it with more time. Also, the feel of execution on what is there is very good. It feels good to play.

Love the aesthetic of the game, and the general vibe of it. The gameplay is simple but fun although I did crash repeatedly which was a bit annoying(I was not spamming the dash key, it just happened). But regardless of stability i thought the game was great, and it was a lovely entry!

Great game. Music was a bit loud, would be nice to be able to change that. Other than that it was a great take on the theme :)

Cool game, the idea and the theme are well done ; you should update your "randomness" to avoid getting middle too much time... like 10 times in a row

I liked that simple gameplay. Theme was well done imo. Music choice was great (personal opinion)...maybe you could have made some graphics, which correspond to the beat. That would have felt great :D
