Princess can jump by Xeniarta

[raw]
made by Xeniarta for Ludum Dare 54 (JAM)

A very simple and tiny old-school-vibe platformer with limited space... bar. Move with [arrow keys], jump with [spacebar], and wait for jumps to recharge. Try to stay alive as long as possible.

I love the humor and fun story of the game! The game is not very innovative as a platformer I think, but controlling the character felt really nice even with the limited jumps and integrates the theme in a very unique way! Overall, Nice job!

I love how funny the game is. Great movement control and i like the art as well. It has quiet the potential as well in my opinion.

Funny idea! Could have used some sort of scoring, which is also a way they make you keep giving coins ;)

@sabasa Thank you, it's nice to hear!

@donvermo Thanks! I hope we'll finish it and add everything that we wanted but didn't have time)

@greenpig Thank you for such nice words!

@sheepolution Thank you!) You're absolutely right  We wanted to add scores, and/or timer, and coins to collect, but the deadline was going to bite us in the ass, soo

nice! I love the limited space twist, but the game was a bit tricky - I never got to see if there was anything else besides the area you start in, and would have loved some sound. Good luck on the next one!

Classic game, classic genre."Lady on costruction site" is funny :) good start for idea of limited space jump!

Pretty hardcore game, i'm manage to survive for some time. It looks like you can fall out of bounds if you will run to the side.
Also I very like the art style of the ui and platforms

@aidanbacon Thanks for the feedback! There is nothing else, just this level, and I agree with you about sound, but the time as always was our enemy)

@jagman Thanks!)

@metsker Thank you for the feedback! :hearts: It's easier to survive on the top platform, but not for long) Yep, the bounds part is one of the things to fix, you're the first one who noticed it) Thanks for playing!

Really remind me of games like cuphead. I think dodging the bullets in a more limitted space than some classic platform is a nice interpretation of the theme.

A nice and fun game. It's a bit hardcore (I guess this is to show how limited the space is). One thing is the resolution doesn't fit in laptop well (the contents close to horizontal borders are not showing). But I love the art style.

I like how you used your level art for the background. The whole game is a bit clunky what makes it hard pretty difficult. I dont understand why there are 3 steps at the jump recharge bar. The flowers and the floor are very well drawn, but dont fit to each other. Thank you for letting me play your game :)

Hey, I think you did a really good job for a first game jam. As the others have said, the basic idea is solid and proven. Your art looks good as well and the interface is readable.
Your mechanics are where I think the game has the most room to grow: The jump feels a bit too high and it is weirdly tricky to jump over fireballs while stying under the platform. Speaking of: The platform feels a bit pointless because you need to spend your jump to get on top and the chance is quite high that you then don't have it for the next fireball. It would also have fit the theme even more (And reduced the chance of a softlock) if they side walls had collision or would loop the player around!
Overall, a simple yet reasonably effective entry and something that is surprisingly polished for a first game. Good Job!

Good job on your first game jam! I really liked the UI for the jump recharge and the drawings are well done. Like others said the bottom platform feels a bit pointless so it would be nice if the player had more incentive to use the bottom platform. Would have like to have something like a timer to see how well my attempt was.

Nice arcade platformer. Visually good looking. I made a mistake interpreting the jump bar, somehow I read it as "jump stacks" instead of "timer for one". I would've preferred slower movement, now the character moves and jumps with quite a burst of energy. And of course, few sounds would've done a lot.

Well done.

Very nice for a first jam game!

My #1 tip for next jam would be, definitely work to get some sound in the game. Even just a little bit of functional sound can increase playability a lot... like a sound when your jump meter is recharged and ready to go,

Simple arcade game, clear visualls and a bit challenging to play for a longer time. I would propose adding either a score count (high score) or some timer, just to give the player some goal.
Also, some progression would be interesting, different fireball speeds, different levels (just the plarforms are different), maybe some traps or any kind of variety.
Nevertheless, congrats on finishing up your game :D

I found the game to be very engaging. The idea is excellent, and if you continue at this pace, you'll surely establish yourself as a professional

A timer would be nice to be able for us to say how far we got! Limited jumps is pretty frusterating :)
