Cloud Prison by Alexascher

[raw]
made by Alexascher for Ludum Dare 54 (JAM)

In a prison without walls atop an ancient tower of winds, a wizard languishes. Forgotten by the world, he never ceases his attempts to break free. For his spells, the wizard employs the ancient craft of runic inscription. Each shape holds within it a unique magic of the ether.

Train your mind, master new incantations, and do not despair of escaping the prison in the clouds. Снимок экрана 2023-10-03 0346331.png

* Tips * - Collect crystals and plant trees to gain mana - Birds will disrupt your runic inscriptions - you can wait for them to fly away or learn a spell against birds - An inscribed rune has the ability to burn created objects, so plan your placement carefully

Well polished game! Mechanic is easy to understand but interesting. Love the achievements, adds replayability. It seems not all of them work though.
Have only one critique - in a case of misclick redrawing patters is really unintuitive.

Really nice game! Art is well polished and the theme fits well. The game plays a little slow paced, in my opinion, but it makes it very relaxing! Congrats on the game!

I only ever had one cloud appear and the only spell that worked was the plant tree one in my run. I guess I must have missed something. I really like the concept and the aesthetics though, congrats!

Love the game! Super strategic and moody. Not sure if this was a reference, but kind of remind me of that time Gandalf got trapped in the tower :D

What a nice game! Well designed and complete. Seconds try I noticed that I can cancel my drawing. "Lightning never strike twice in the same place"? Lies!

Beautiful game, I played it for a solid 10 minutes and it is honestly very satisfying, great esthetic and music and matches the theme well! Good job !

Very good idea for this theme ! Not a fan of this type of games, but it works well. The ambience is moody and suits well the idea of a lone mage in his sky prison, so good choice of music. I had 2 problems : the scrolling of spells was way too slow, and I think it could be better to see the escape spell right at the begining so that we have an idea of how to escape (I initially thought we had to make a cloud bridge towards nowhere for example).

Well done! Liked the drawing of spells and the way the game progresses. Made it to the end! I agree with wanting easier ways to determine where you start drawing from, as backtracking to the first candle just to cancel and start somewhere else was a bit tedious, but not a huge problem. Also ran into a problem where I cast the cloud spell and there was nowhere to put it? So I kind of just had to sit there until the wind blew some other clouds away. Also having to click/drag the spell list was a bit off, but not a dealbreaker. Overall good work!

Very nice mechanic. Pleasant music and visuals. Overall great experience. Thanks!
I noticed that after some time it looks like birds, wind and strike events stopped happening. Could have been a bug.

the graphics really stood out the most. the most satisfying thing was ability to cast a spell against birds. loved the strategy driven in this game. but one problem i found was - when i clicked the seal-cup icon, i wasn't able to scroll the page.

Everything about this game works perfectly. Aesthetics, music, the idea, drawing patterns combined with mechanics - are all great. I'm amazed.

It's so fun! This idea would work so well on a shippable game if not for the jam theme haha. I found some bugs tho: I was looking at the achievements and I couldn't close the achievements windows, but the game would unpause, making it unplayable, I had to reload the page. Other minor bugs: it seems sometimes it wouldn't draw the vertex of the rune (with no birds anywhere). The other thing is I don't know if a rune is supposed to delete objects if a vertex touch it, but I've been able to play around it.

Great game on every aspect, looks and plays like a finished one! Puzzles are fun and also work really well as interpretation to the theme. Finished the game on the second try, the first one I was trolled by the birds to death xD
Thank you very much for the fun I've had with the walktrough! :))

Thanks for submitting your game to our stream yesterday (tobugis). We had a lot of fun, although we have never been zapped so much in our lives

I believe we gave you good feedbacks during the stream so same applies. It hurts to have been burnt to crisp when we were so close to drawing the last spell and escaping the prison. Well done, really beautiful game!

Great game! the prison space is truly limited but it could be expanded .
I had to learn the ropes in hard and shocking way but eventually understand how to play this game.
One of the best games from this jam for sure.
