Demon's Call by Coro_yy

[raw]
made by Coro_yy for Ludum Dare 55 (JAM)

Our third LD together and once again, both of us learned a few new things (AI, Animation, VFX). The project might've been a bit ambitious and is far from a finished/polished state, but the experience itself was worth the struggle.

In Demon's Call you play as the evil Alex whos only goal is to satisfy the summoning circles grand demands. To do so, you need to steal from villagers by destroying their belongings (chest, vase, barrel) or even kill them. If they see you, they will call for guards which then spawn and chase you down. You are able to defend yourself and attack them back until they're dead. There are also "natural" resources like tress or well (I hope you brought your bucket). Sadly there's no real endgame (besides some cuteness). It just wasn't doable anymore in terms of time.

This year we also had some help in the audio department which we are very grateful for. Big shoutout to Rixdorf and lanistan!

We hope you enjoy our game!

@floweryandy if you saw a frog, you did. We didn't have time to implement a bossfight, so this is the "ending" now :D

Managed to get to the nice frog. Love the soundtrack and sound effects! Fighting was sometimes difficult for me, would've appreciated some kind of attack animation or SFX.

@vinzbad those animation exist, but they didn't make it into the final build in time :( Thanks for your feedback. Our audio people will be happy!

Really good idea, it was interesting to play it, i reached the frog, so i assume, that i won:)
For continue developing this game, it would be great if you add some animations of attacking)

The artwork is nice, and the sound design is great. Shame the attack animations didn't make it in.
I had trouble smashing some of the breakables.

Quite a challenging scope for a gamejam! The lighting was very cool, the sound effects really helped the mood and feel. Apart from obvious stuff that would have been added given time (like animations), zooming out the camera and leaning it a bit would have helped imo.

Great job!

I agree with @luamct about zooming out the camera and leaning for the viewing angle. It would have been cool to summon something like a fireball for more diverse item pickups (like burnt arm, charcoal, etc) and combat play. I really liked the visual cartoonish style and sound effects. Awesome work. :)

Awesome audio . I would only suggest adding more visual feedback on attack/damage and collision boundaries since it not very clear for now and looks a bit random. It would be even ok to sacrifice (for example) some of summoning mechanics but add more feedback.
But I guess you just didn't have enough time to do this, so no worries.

Nevertheless, quite nice and funny entry!
