Words Have Power

It was another glorious day in the Holy Kingdom of Arrhenia, and a great wizard was hard at work, searching for mystical Words of Power...

Lorem Ipsummon is a puzzle-platformer in which you must make your way through a variety of fiendish obstacles to uncover the secrets of the forbidden ruins. Along the way, you'll find Words of Power which can be used to summon objects that will aid your progress.

Be careful, wizard - there may be threats in unexpected places. Use your words wisely, and always listen to what you're told.

Cute graphics, love the palette. Very whimsical vibe, and awesome music. The VA is a nice touch (and well done), but the volume levels are waaay too loud compared to the sounds/bg music. Awesome little entry.

Great work all around! Controls were a bit janky and unresponsive, but otherwise you did a bang-up job!

Nice art style and creative puzzles. Controls were a bit tough for me and I definitely fell downwards in to previous checkpoint flags a few times but I kept playing for the enthusiastic VO and humor. Really enjoyed the writing and the easter egg when I trapped myself in a box was a nice touch.

Oh, wow, this game is really spectacular! Everything from the graphics to the puzzles to the voiceover is amazing. Such a strong central set of mechanics and such devious puzzle crafting, I hope you all expand this into a commercial game. (Just don't let us regress by falling on the previous checkpoint flags, that's almost too cruel)

This game was fantastic. I loved every minute of it and got lost in it for a half hour. The sound design was amazing and the voice work was phemonemal. The game was hard in all the right ways, where I found myself frustrated but driven to beat it. Favorite game I've played this jam. Amazing work!

That narrator was incredible. Had a ton of fun hearing their numerous different quips and remarks. The game itself was fun as well. I did find a funny bug though. If you spawn a box on the top corner of another, you can use it for perpetual horizontal motion. Had a lot of fun playing around with it. Great work!

The concept behind this is really great, and a cool take on the theme. I also really loved the art style, and the transition reminds me alot of Cave Story which is awesome.

I will say that the level design could have taken more advantage of the premise, but that's always something which could be explored in a full version!

Overall, really nice game :)

The Good:
- Love the narration. The little comments when I died were funny, but did get annoying (covered below)
- Love the art and style, I'm always a fan of well executed pixel art.
- the idea of dragging the words to summon is a neat one, wish it was used more.

I will admit, I did not finish the whole thing, for reasons below:

The Not So Good:
- Game controls felt like they flopped from being floaty to way too precise. Made it really hard to judge my jumps.
- The fall speeds of the player and the blocks were off enough that I was able to push a block and then get crushed by it immediately.
- my jump inputs got eaten _constantly_. I died about ten times in a row to the same obstacle because I would press space and the guy would not jump instead he just fell off a cliff. The little quips when you die are cute, but after enough unfair feeling deaths they got a bit grating.

Design notes:
- I would have liked to see the summon mechanic used more. I'm sure there was more of it later (as I said I didn't finish the game), but in the early part at least it felt underutilized.
- I do not understand the need for a wall grab. if I jumped against a wall I would slide down it, and there didn't appear to be wall jumping, so this slowdown felt unnecessary and just slowed me down.

TL;DR
Neat idea, great art, love the voice acting. Controls and eaten inputs kept me from finishing.

Voice is guy is being mean to me ... :(

Ok for real. Very good game ! A lot of polish everywhere. The voice acting is a nice touch, especially because it reacts to the player.
One thing that kept me from finishing the game : the jumps. Very floaty sometimes, but they seem heavier from a falling crate. I ended up quitting after dying repeatedly at the same spot (*skill issue, I know :p*)
But in the end : Solid entry, would love to see more of the summoning in action. ^^'

Thank you for the stream submission! I was getting a bit tired at the end, so I just wanted to say that I loved the way the game looked and was presented. The graphics were on point and your VA was just stellar. Great job :)

This was really well done! I liked the mechanic of summoning things using the words as spells. Like some others have said, I do wish there was more opportunity to use this mechanic. I think it could be a larger part of the game as it mostly felt like your typical platformer. Otherwise, the sound design was amazing, the visuals were very well done, and the voice acting was an excellent touch. Nice job!

Props to the narrator, that was some top tier voice acting! The game itself was charming and entertaining, but having someone narrate it turned it into a full experience.

I agree with others that the platforming felt off. I think the issue is that the player's horizontal velocity slightly higher while falling, so letting go of the up key while there's still room to rise results in an abrupt/unexpected speed boost. That definitely killed me a few times.

Regardless, I made it to the end and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Great job everyone!

Wow! Extremely put together. and the Stanley Parable is strong with this one. The platforming controls were excellent, I love the narrator, but a couple things of note: a couple times when I died and the narrator was going on about how terrible I am, the voice line for me dying overwrite the main dialog and I didnt get the full verbal beatdown I deserved. Also, I didn't realize I could store multiple words in my inventory until it happened accidentally. I used holding down my mouse as an "extra" inventory space a couple times till I realized. Extremely polished for a jam game, well done!

Awesome game!! The controls were very fluent and the gameplay mechanic was cool. I was a little lost navigating through the level, but really glad there were checkpoints as well. Definitely wanted to smack the narrator 🤣

Love the voice over and the script, it was quirky and fun. Music was great and fit the mood very well.

Accidentally summoning a crate onto myself was *chef's kiss* and I loved the way the voice over made fun of me for it.

The platforming was very floaty, which, I think it had to be to work, but sometimes led to strangeness - I was crushed by a box that I pushed over a ledge too quickly. Both wizard and box went over the ledge, but the wizard fell faster than the box and slid right underneath it. The floaty controls made me play much slower and more cautiously than I would in most platformers.

The last platforming section was challenging in a good way. I wish there was more game, and more objects to summon!

Really well executed game on all fronts, the only thing that can see improving is the level design by adding new words more often.

Well done, brother! This is my favorite art, and the platform type is also my favorite. These two together are great!

Lovely art, and fun to play! Well done VA as well and the concept and execution of the gameplay was nice.
Physics for the boxes was a bit weird though but I could see this become a banger with at bit of polish and more levels.

So many meta comments! I love it. Didnt realise how badly my platformer skills had degraded. Only bug i experienced was dieing with a word being dragged left it chasing my mouse after i had spawned until the next word i picked up, otherwise a very well polished game.
