Zelena's Summoning Service by GaryNinja

[raw]
made by GaryNinja for Ludum Dare 55 (JAM)

Controls: WASD to Move Mouse for Camera Space to jump When Unlocked: Left Shift for sprint Space in the air to double jump

Plot: The king has declared war, you are a postal worker delivering the summons that will hopefully rally enough soldiers to turn the tide.

I had a lot of fun working on this, there were definitely points that I thought i'd go crazy, but in the end i'm fairly happy with what I've achieved. Compared to my previous effort this is something i'd fairly confidently call a game, but I'm sure there will be many better. Regardless, if you enjoy please do leave a comment, if you don't (and can be polite about it) feel free to leave some constructive criticism too :)MailboxWaypointImage.png

Simple concept, movements are good until the third level where the high jump makes the letters actually hard to collect
Doesn't quite fit the theme, but cool 3Cs overall!

Looks really nice! I also really loved the intro audio. The gameplay, however, did not entice me. I also did not understand how to "head to the next level". Hope you had a great time!

Nice result! Making a game is never easy.

Some pointers:
- I'm always interested in seeing settings, especially in game jams. It's cool that there are some, but I believe you could have a saved time there. I thought my high-end laptop could handle epic but apparently, it couldn't. Just a default setting that should run fine on most machines could save time here.

- I went to credits and was a bit lost seeing a 'congratulations building'. For credits, you can also keep it simple by adding a splash screen or just adding it to the title screen. Also saves some time.

- There were a few cases I wasn't sure about the info. Could I unlock double-jump and run? Where can I find the entry to the next level?

All that said, it's a game! Congrats on seeing it through. Keep it up!

I had a fun time playing your game, good job! The upgrades were a nice touch too, the jumping one really makes you feel like you're a moon-man delivering mail ;) (the jumping was a bit much, felt a bit like a downgrade than an upgrade but funny nonetheless)

Very good comments overall I think they are all with merit :) The jump was a bit of a downgrade rather than an upgrade, potentially if it had made the size of the jump a toggle that would have been better :) With the theme, I was trying to go with the idea of the summoner being someone that sends summons, but I understand this isn't the obvious / most logical approach :) I had tried to implement a waypoint system to show how to go to the next level, so that deffo will be different in a future Jam. The Gameplay as well was very much a concept of getting it technically working, with less time then to make it super fun (which is a bit silly I admit :P ) Many thanks for all the comments :)

I had fun delivering the mail, it reminded me of Lake, I don't know if it was one of your references?
Well done for using Unreal, the moves were super fun! I'm having a bit of trouble seeing the link with the theme though :/
It was fun, bravo!

I liked running around and collecting things, but once I got the spring that made my jumps higher, I felt like it slowed me down and caused me to over jump a lot. Otherwise I had a good time.

cool stuff. would have loved to have some more obstacles or a time limit. maybe get some additional time when a letter is delivered or something.
now it just felt like there is nothing at stake, but was sometimes just wandering around the environment to look at the trippy stuff which was cool too. I found a bed inside one of the houses I think^^

The upgrades were a easy to miss I think which was a bit sad. I never got the boost one.
maybe put a marker to go to the house for the next level too when you have to^^

would play as watermelon mailman again.

Interesting idea and it was pleasure to play it! Good job! It is more impressive that you do all this job by yourself! Almost Death stranding :)
One thing:
1. Add in game menu, because i should exit the game via task manager :)

Really had a ton of fun you should be proud! Game play was really enjoyable, with a few polishes here and there it would be steam ready!

Really great animation of the main character!

Simplistic level, but not bad, and for a game prototype it totally works!
And great job with using mail for the "Summoning" theme, that's clever!
