The idea of being a cartographer that has to explore the world, mark it all down and make the best paths between points of interest has huge potential! I really like the graphics and choice of music. I was enjoying myself a lot just wandering through the map and placing down my paths. I didn't really understand how scoring works, I found a city and dragged my mouse to it and somehow got -20 xD but that's fine. Still had fun.\n\nAlthough, I seemed to always get lost the further I played, like my map suddenly became wrong, and then I read the description and realized that the tiles were changed around every week, and... unfortunately I just don't think that's a fun idea... I was having a lot of fun mapping the places I visited. My personal goal was to fill out the entire map and send a screenshot. But as soon as I realized my map had become incorrect due to a game mechanic, I didn't want to bother anymore :< I really appreaciate this game's idea, but I think you tried to add a sense of challenge to a game that didn't need it. Knowing your way around and marking everything correctly so you know where you are and need to go is already challenging and fun enough! Having the tiles swap around takes the fun out of it in my opinion...\n\nI think you have something truly special here, for real! While I was just vibing and mapping I honestly liked this more than any other game in this whole jam! If you made a version of this game that was just the chill mapping, I would play it to the end and want more.","format":"md","likes":2,"spam":"N"},{"id":1075636,"author_name":"ajpl","author_uid":"ajpl","epoch":1714333155,"text":"@wolfier There is never enough time during Jam for finishing xD \nAnd, what is not always sure with games from jams, here there is this 'that idea is surprisingly fun' part - I would consider it really successful prototype :)\nYou could easily make cool post jam game from it! \n\nJust as @fupi said, drop the end-week-randomizing, as its frustrating as hell, and focus on core feature of pure mapping and exploration, and just add minor gameplay elements on top of it. e.g. I would also ditch the 'be at city after one week' in favor of some mild rpg\/survival elements. Maybe adding some more landmarks or ability to place own signs. With that, even adding some kind of getting lost mechanic would be cool, as long as one can find some recognizable spot (maybe even make map draft in meantime, than joining it with the main one).\n\nThere is lot of possibilities to develop it further - I would actually loved to play such game :D","format":"md","likes":1,"spam":"N"},{"id":1075660,"author_name":"Fupi","author_uid":"fupi","epoch":1714336447,"text":"@ajpl Those are some great ideas! I was thinking like, an easy way to post jam it would be to, instead of randomizing the map after the timer ends and the screen fades out, you could just teleport the player to a random tile, as if you got lost in the middle of the night. That way, you'd still be punished for not getting to a city in time, but you could still find your way back, so you're rewarded for actually filling out the map correctly.","format":"md","likes":1,"spam":"N"},{"id":1078459,"author_name":"Paul Nadan","author_uid":"paul-nadan","epoch":1714750120,"text":"This is a really neat concept and the gameplay\/music felt very relaxing. Be advised though that there isn't space on the map for outer edges as you weren't supposed to get through them.\n__________________________________________________________________\n### Music credits ###\n\nHarumachi - Pilgrimage https:\/\/pixabay.com\/music\/folk-pilgrimage-ancient-mediaeval-harp-174049\/\n\nHarumachi - The Foggy City https:\/\/pixabay.com\/music\/ambient-the-foggy-city-182401\/\n\nAleksey Chistilin\/Lexin_Music - Ancient World https:\/\/pixabay.com\/music\/adventure-ancient-world-118017\/\n\nAleksey Chistilin\/Lexin_Music - Lost in the Enchanted Woods https:\/\/pixabay.com\/music\/build-up-scenes-lost-in-the-enchanted-woods-191319\/\n\nJuliusH - The Lost Hero https:\/\/pixabay.com\/music\/main-title-the-lost-hero-epic-orchestra-trombone-and-chorus-3461\/\n\nJuliusH - The Lord https:\/\/pixabay.com\/music\/folk-the-lord-medieval-music-4239\/\n","title":"The Duke's Cartographer.","wayback_recovered":true,"wayback_source":{"capture":{"original":"https:\/\/api-jam.ludumdare.com\/vx\/node2\/get\/393501+393502+393503+393504+393505+393506+393507+393508+393509+393510+393511+393512+393513+393514+393515+393516+393517+393518+393519+393520+393521+393522+393523+393524+393525+393526+393527+393528+393529+393530+393531+393532+393533+393534+393535+393536+393537+393538+393539+393540+393541+393542+393543+393544+393545+393546+393547+393548+393549+393550+393551+393552+393553+393554+393555+393556+393557+393558+393559+393560+393561+393562+393563+393564+393565+393566+393567+393568+393569+393570+393571+393572+393573+393574+393575+393576+393577+393578+393579+393580+393581+393582+393583+393584+393585+393586+393587+393588+393589+393590+393591+393592+393593+393594+393595+393596+393597+393598+393599+393600+393601+393602+393603+393604+393605+393606+393607+393608+393609+393610+393611+393612+393613+393614+393615+393616+393617+393618+393619+393620+393621+393622+393623+393624+393625+393626+393627+393628+393629+393630+393631+393632+393633+393634+393635+393636+393637+393638+393639+393640+393641+393642+393643+393644+393645+393646+393647+393648+393649+393650+393651+393652+393653+393654+393655+393656+393657+393658+393659+393660+393661+393662+393663+393664+393665+393666+393667+393668+393669+393670+393671+393672+393673+393674+393675+393676+393677+393678+393679+393680+393681+393682+393683+393684+393685+393686+393687+393688+393689+393690+393691+393692+393693+393694+393695+393696+393697+393698+393699+393700+393701+393702+393703+393704+393705+393706+393707+393708+393709+393710+393711+393712+393713+393714+393715+393716+393717+393718+393719+393720+393721+393722+393723+393724+393725+393726+393727+393728+393729+393730+393731+393732+393733+393734+393735+393736+393737+393738+393739+393740+393741+393742+393743+393744+393745+393746+393747+393748+393749+393750+393751+393752+393753+393754+393755+393756+393757+393758+393759+393760+393761+393762+393763+393764+393765+393766+393767+393768+393769+393770+393771+393772+393773+393774+393775+393776+393777+393778+393779+393780+393781+393782+393783+393784+393785+393786+393787+393788+393789+393790+393791+393792+393793+393794+393795+393796+393797+393798+393799+393800+393801+393802+393803+393804+393805+393806+393807+393808+393809+393810+393811+393812+393813+393814+393815+393816+393817+393818+393819+393820+393821+393822+393823+393824+393825+393826+393827+393828+393829+393830+393831+393832+393833+393834+393835+393836+393837+393838+393839+393840+393841+393842+393843+393844+393845+393846+393847+393848+393849+393850+393851+393852+393853+393854+393855+393856+393857+393858+393859+393860+393861+393862+393863+393864+393865+393866+393867+393868+393869+393870+393871+393872+393873+393874+393875+393876+393877+393878+393879+393880+393881+393882+393883+393884+393885+393886+393887+393888+393889+393890+393891+393892+393893+393894+393895+393896+393897+393898+393899+393900+393901+393902+393903+393904+393905+393906+393907+393908+393909+393910+393911+393912+393913+393914+393915+393916+393917+393918+393919+393920+393921+393922+393923+393924+393925+393926+393927+393928+393929+393930+393931+393932+393933+393934+393935+393936+393937+393938+393939+393940+393941+393942+393943+393944+393945+393946+393947+393948+393949+393950+393951+393952+393953+393954+393955+393956+393957+393958+393959+393960+393961+393962+393963+393964+393965+393966+393967+393968+393969+393970+393971+393972+393973+393974+393975+393976+393977+393978+393979+393980+393981+393982+393983+393984+393985+393986+393987+393988+393989+393990+393991+393992+393993+393994+393995+393996+393997+393998+393999+394000?authors&parents&superparent"},"object":"objects\/sha256\/1f\/1f4bf2f7f8b9697ba0534bd052f67b304e308c6b0d434356b3a8115d21c63207","record":"shard-1\/json-live-urgent-v3\/records\/9f4f3cbdb28c2d8d59503440f813f8656341593c08ab5d8cc63f54451c6c64e8.json","sha256":"1f4bf2f7f8b9697ba0534bd052f67b304e308c6b0d434356b3a8115d21c63207","source":"https","stored_at":1784022538}}
