Summoner's Sanctum by Prismapunch

[raw]
made by Prismapunch for Ludum Dare 55 (JAM)

Summoner Salazar is diving deep into THE SANCTUM. His old age makes him weak, but that doesn't stop him from SUMMONING powerful helpers from the void. See how far you can take Salazar into THE SANCTUM before you succumb to the enemies within.

Press on the portrait of a summon to begin summoning, and click anywhere in the play area to summon them in that location. Select a summon to see who they're targeting, and right clicking on an enemy will set that enemy as their target. Your mana refills after every room, but don't waste all of it- or Salazar will perish if he can't summon any more helpers. Too difficult? Turn on auto-battle for auto-targeting!

I enjoyed this. Kind of fun to game the enemy AI by placing archers on opposite ends of the level.

this game is quite good! however it could do with a bit of enemy variety because I found that the best strategy was not to use the 3 units I had, but rather to *only* use the archer and nothing was able to stop it. the graphics are very charming too!

Well made game with a lot of polish on its design, however it's not particularly well balanced as it didn't take too long to realize the best strat is to just put archers in the corner. I beat 20 levels and concluded it went on forever.

Balance and enemy escalation probably need tweaking, but otherwise great job!

I really like the visuals and sound, but the game isn't very balanced. The best strategy is placing archers in the back. I really think this game could use some kind of ending once you reach a certain room. I got to room 22 before quitting the game.

Liked the art and the gameplay, was fun! Got past level 20 and similar to other comments assumed it was endless. Overall, I think archers were the best strategy, I experimented a little with the sword and board characters and felt they died very easily. Barbarian was okay, but I agree that archers in the back (or even on both sides of the field) were optimal strategies.

Visually really nice. Like others have commented the balance side of things could use tweaking, but that's more polish that can be done with the game. Overall really well done.

Made it to level 15 and checked the comments. Once I saw everyone else was saying it was endless, I stopped playing. I was having fun while playing though.

I would like to see more variety in the levels beyond just switching the enemies up. Change the number of points you get so people don't just reuse "what worked". That kind of thing.

I was hoping to get to a big boss at some point. :frowning2:

Fun game but wish there was a little more variety in the rooms and if there was an ending point. I was expecting some kind of boss after a few rooms but just kept going with the same stuff. Great art and works well for what it is though. Good Job!

I enjoyed playing this, the art style is nice and the audio fits well. The clay golem reminds me of Clayface from DC universe :D. Overall cool game, I'd see myself playing this on a tablet.

I thought I was so smart using a bunch of archers and then saw the comments 🤣 I do agree that there are ways to mix up the game with more enemy types, adjustments to the level layouts, different mana amounts, a limit to each type of unit, etc. But this is a super cute game and I had fun to plow through levels! And it's VERY fitting of the theme 🥳

Visual style reminds me of old cartoons, love it. Music also fits this happy dungeoneering.

As many previously mentioned 5 archers strategy seems to beat everything, I managed to get to 27th level without enemy even hitting them once. While I assume units were supposed to counter each other; slow golems < archers < flying skulls < barbarian/knight < skeletons < knight/barbarian < slow golems but currently it isn't finely tuned.

Overall, enjoyable experience, well done!

I enjoyed the graphics and audio, but I found that it got really repetitive and by placing 3 archers and an axe guy you could win any level. Probably could have been better if you regained mana when an enemy died and if the game was just generally faster.

I love the art and mood. The wizard in the UI was a nice touch.

This is one of my favourite games this jam. The gameplay loop was simple but effective, the later levels were a fun challenge, as I did try to not cheese the AI. Overall a very fun entry.
