Wiz Biz: A Summon's Sacrifice by MontyMoneybags

[raw]
made by MontyMoneybags for Ludum Dare 55 (JAM)

Our first game jam was rocky but now done!! Playable itch link is below the title image.

There are a couple known bugs with the crab. They do work so you may need to retry a puzzle sometimes.

Controls:

WASD to move (all characters).

SPACE to Jump (as wizard or the fluffy summon).

Left click to select and summon (near wizard and on solid ground, you must also see the place where you summon).

Right click to cancel summon before placing.

Cool mix of linkage & platformer. May be MC is too big for such level, i died many times on spikes)

I really liked it, a lot of small and interesting puzzles. Some of them were a bit annoying due to a need for a character to stand in exactly the correct spot in order for jump to reach the platform, but it was ok in the end. Would love to have some sounds as well, but gameplay loop works and is very enjoyable nonetheless.

I am probably missing something, but I wasn't able to figure out how to beat even the first level, sorry

I assume you are supposed to make the crab explose at some point but never found how to do it sadly 😔

First levels are cool tho, i would have loved to see the following

Nice entry 👍

I like the idea and the puzzles! I got stuck at some point with the crab thought(I know you said there were some bugs), I'm not sure if he is supposed to do something(maybe explode given how he looks?) Tried a few time but gave up eventually. Overall it has a nice feel, good job!

it would be great if gamers could restore the line with the summoned creature again

Nevermind, I've figured it out, I was just jumping lower because of the friction with wall. Nice game, good job! :)

One of the highest quality visual styles I've seen this ldjam! The rules are pretty fun and new too, never seen this "link" mechanic before. Something felt slightly off about the jumping controls, but other than that super solid entry, great job!

I like it. One tip I would give is try to have the same pixel size for everything on screen. That is easier said then done though obviously, especially when working in a team.

I got stuck at this level and didn't know how to continue. Even so I was able to play several levels. The puzzles are very entertaining and very ingenious, I really liked the game!

The puzzles are well made! I had fun playing them, but have some feedback. The player controls feel a bit sticky when moving on the ground. Further, like someone else also mentioned, it is easier on the eye when all the elements on the screen are of the same pixel size. It would also be nice if one could re-establish the summon link when you go out of view but later come back in the line of sight. Otherwise, the music was good and I didn't have any other issues.

Nice concept and pretty well made.
Jumps are a little slippery but okay.
I would have prefer the crab to explode once disconnected, I find it more intuitive.
Thank you for your game.

Very fun puzzle game. UI did block some of the things so I couldn't see what I was doing, but otherwise was very fun. Also why must I keep killing that poor sheepy 😭

Good concept and diversity of the puzzles, even if the puzzles were a bit simple. I also can't imagine coming up with good puzzles during the time of a jam!

The jump was a bit awkward because of the friction with the side of the platforms and walls (you probably want a different physics material for the top vs sides).

Also for the next jam, it could be helpful to write up the controls in the description page - I know you mention that the crab doesn't always work, but I also don't know what it's supposed to do.

@ice9 Yeah, controls are a good idea. I'll add them in the description.

Nice concept, that could be expanded on. Wasn't a fan of the jumping controls. Not pressing forward, when initiating the jump would give a higher jump.

Got to the "end" of the game, very neat application of just a few simple mechanics to create a surprising amount of puzzles! Quite similar in theming to our game (side scrolling puzzle platformer with a guy in robes who summons stuff to help him) but executed completely differently, which was fun to see!

Very nice puzzles, really liked the way you mixed the simple mechanics to create different puzzles. At times it was a little bit confusing trying to figure out if I could jump up to certain platforms, but overall I liked it.
