FERRYMAN by Wwwan

[raw]
made by Wwwan for Ludum Dare 55 (EXTRA)

Welcome to play our Ferryman. This is the first game I finished with Huang, it's a very rough demo, but we like it very much, the backstory of the game is about the four Chinese beasts: Green Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird and Black Turtle, players have to use their power to ferry souls, but with the help of the power will be consumed by the soul, you need to choose whether to keep the soul or the soul of the beasts summoned!

Basic Controls A - Move Left D - Move Right S - Fast Drop Space - Jump

White Tiger Skill: Sprint Left Shift - Use Skill

Soul Throughout your journey, you will encounter countless souls. Touch them to collect. You can use the power of souls to summon creatures. Souls will dissipate when depleted. If you run out of spare souls to expend, you will die. The more souls you carry upon completion, the higher your evaluation will be.

Vermilion Bird Skill: Triple Jump Space - Use Skill

Summoning Tip Each summoned creature offers unique skills for the player to use. Select the target creature and click "Summon." Each summoning costs 3 souls.微信图片_20240416014150.jpg

The graphics look really nice and the summoning mechanic was quite fun. Triple jump seems to be quite strong. Also I managed to go out of bounds on the top left somewhere :D

Hey I've juste tested your game and i have some reviews. First your web Game didn't work, secondly i didn't figure out the uses of the turtle and the dragon, I summon them after summon the triple jump guys but by doing that I have used all my souls and so I cannot continue the game because I was stuck. Thirdly I would have add a no friction material to the player in order to not being stuck on wall while jumping. Otherwise the graphics and animations were cool and your idea for the summon theme was well integrate.
I'd love to play it again if you make some change.![Capture d’écran 2024-04-15 204618.png](///raw/354/e5/z/6205a.png)

Great graphism. The summons where cute. I see someone also say this but the bird is really really strong. Triple jump in a plateform game is broken!

I like the idea of summoning different familiars for different challenges but I was able to use bird boi to triple jump to everything! There was also just a lot of odd bits of game feel that would need work but you got Coyote Time! Keep it up!

Beautiful game. It was hard to navigate in the world, which is unfortunate, as I was intrigued to explore

It's really hard to control character, I fell in the pit and cannot get out, so I ended up restarting the game. Also I've tried to summon creature, but I couldn't summon any. I think there are plenty of bugs that need to be fixed.
Graphics are stylish anyway

The game could benefit a lot from a smaller scope. The idea is very wonderful. However, here are my core complaints:

-The movement should not feel as snappy as it does, especially in the air. A rigidbody movement system could be more suitable.

-The beasts should not be a part of the player sprite, since it takes away the idea that they are followers. You could make them follow an offset of the player with Vector3.Lerp perhaps. You would also need to invert the offset depending on which way the player is facing.

-The game definitely needs more *juice*, As in, jumping effects, Falling animations etc.

Other than that a great idea with potential!

Seems like there were some hiccups with the embedded HTML5. Not sure if it was just a glitch on my end, but the audio didn't seem to kick in for me. Art was a real standout, especially digging the idle animation and others. Text boxes wer sticking around longer than expected, which threw me off a bit. Overall, solid effort!

Cool idea but definitely too rough around the edges. I really liked the idea of summoning creatures to gain new abilities but the triple jump was totally op. Overall though you guys did a good job realizing a unique idea during the 72 hours. I think with a bit more polish you could turn this into a fun experience.
