Liturgy of Darkness is an arcade shooter. As a young acolyte, you must protect the Wizard's summoning ritual at all costs!

To move use WASD or Arrow keys. To fire magic from your staff click Left Mouse or press Space. Enemies within range will be automatically whacked with your staff!

The Wizard (and you) is protected by a Ward Shield, but when that goes down he is exposed until it can fully recover. If you or the Wizard die - the ritual fails and it's game over.

At the start of each Wave the Wizard will call out a list of 3 Materials the player must collect to complete the wave. Monsters will drop Materials when you kill them - pick them up and RETURN TO THE SUMMONING CIRCLE with them.

If you survive a Wave, you will select an upgrade to further enhance the acolyte or strengthen the Ward.

As you complete the final wave the fury of the demons it draws in will reach its peak and the ritual shall complete...

Nice working base! Too bad the power ups feel a bit underwhelming compared to the enemy curve.

Nice work! Felt very polished with the shadows moving across the ground and even the image with the requirements becomoing transparent if you move behind it to not block the player. Seems like you can go back into the summoning circle to deposit collected materials even if you don't have everything yet, but it doesn't tell you how much of which item you've deposited. This made me confused and I thought I lost all my items but the enemies weren't dropping them a nymore. Overall a fun game!

Id have to agree with the previous comment. The base of this game (looks + gameplay) feels super nice - but the mismatch in power-curve quickly makes you feel helpless

@alkemiste @gabriel-chan @liniux @trux Thanks for the feedback!

The difficulty curve was something that was in flux up to the very last minute of the jam. I wish I had more time to balance things out and even had notes to increase some of the upgrade values at later waves. You are definitely correct about feeling powerless in those later waves. I'm curious to see how much more I can tinker with it.

@gabriel-chan You can deposit the materials in part or in full whenever you return to the circle. I could have illustrated that better by updating his speech bubble. Thanks for the callout - it is a bit confusing!

Appreciate you all taking the time to check it out! :D

@rockers Thanks for checking it out! I think a last minute change to the music transition from the upgrade screen to battle did not get set to loop! Glad you liked the tune, though!

Great job! The idea is simple but it works, there are several details with more polishing it would look much better. Maybe I would replace the arrow with a mouse pointer with a scope, the design of the enemies seems better done to me than that of the player, I think that with a more personality character the game feeling would improve. Well done! xd

Ideia promissora e interessante, achei que poderia ser menos punitivo, mas gostei.

An idea very similar to what I wanted to try out one time! Simple and fun gameplay loop, the difficulty spike post wave 3 is pretty intense O_O

Nice game!
I like the idea, everything is easy to understand.
For a next version, maybe a better balance between powerups and enemies could be great :)

Thank you for the game!

Hey cool game. Nice sounds and cool graphics. The idea is neat and the gameplay itself really nice. But as other mentioned the difficulty curve is unfortunatly off. But nevertheless cool entry.
