CrateCaster by Whismirk

[raw]
made by Whismirk for Ludum Dare 55 (JAM)

Your spellbook has been stolen by an evil sorcerer hell-bent on taking over the world !

Your only spell left is one that seems, at first glance, pretty useless : one that allows you to summon... crates ?

Game is pretty short due to poor time management on my part. Only 6 tiny levels. Had a boss fight planned but had to scrap it.

Third party assets used will be listed on itch.io shortly.

Nice platform game, and quite funny at that. The shake can be a little intense but it is fun to play!

The puzzles are quite challenging, so it was really nice to add a skip level button. I really liked the physics of the game, as it had a sense of chaos in it. The voice acting was also A+.

Cute, funny, fast, and unique!
I had some difficulties with some of the puzzles but I enjoyed the ones that I've finished!

Very interesting to see that chickenmancy is capable of summoning crates.

Nice one, @whismirk!

This is nice. I wouldn't worry about the lack of levels, it's kind of expected for a weekend game. You've got a solid core for a bigger game if you wanted to develop it further, and what you do have is totally playable.

If the screenshake were able to be turned off (it was a bit violent) and the mouse cursor was visible, this would be a 100% solid entry!
Despite those flaws, I enjoyed myself, great game <3 I loved the voice acting and the ending was funny
That last level was terrifyingly difficult lmfao

ohhh such a nice idea! neat and simple. I saw that you wrote that you had problems with time-management, to my mind it is not short for this type of game jam, so don't be hard on yourself! :)

Was pretty fun though I struggled with the third stage, sfx were a tad on the loud side. Loved the idea though, made me smile "why is there a chicken here?"

Really fun little puzzle platformer. It was certainly challenging with the puzzles, especially with physics doing its thing. The humour is pretty great too, I love the characters.

The game is great, easily immersive within the universe! The atmosphere, the pressure, unfortunately it's a bit too short, and you notice it with the difficulty of the puzzles that rises too quickly, but it shows great potential, I just want more of your game!!!!!! Thank you very much and keep going!

Cool game. I like the interactions with the environment to solve the presented problems. I had to turn the sound down due to the fireballs but you've got yourself a solid start to a cool platformer. I would also look into the off screen clicks too if you can. I ended up closing the browser xD

What a short and silly game.

I wish it was longer.

I think this is actually a pretty decent amount of content for a jam game, you're selling yourself short with "only 6 tiny levels", this is a lot of stuff! You've got a nice little puzzle platformer here, which has some well thought out levels.

The final level was too much for me, it seemed like it needed some pretty precise timing and I just didn't have it in me. I appreciated the skip level button though, so I could experience the whole game. I also got a bit confused on how many crates I actually had from looking at the mana bar, being a bit more explicit about "you have three crates" in some way on the UI would be nice.

Overall though, fantastic job!

I was really hoping the music was original cause it was gooooood lol. But either way this game was great. I love the box summoning mechanic and the level design!

My most immediate issues were not being able to see EXACTLY where my cursor was. Sometimes this is fine, but the game doesn't lock my cursor to the window, so it's really easy to accidentally click out while playing. It's also just nice as a player to see where exactly I'm aiming.

Another thing that stuck out to me was the audio balance. The SFX are much louder than the music.

The story was really funny, but I feel bad for her in the ending lol. Let her summon crates!!

And just for fun, I found a little cheese strat in the last level

If you stack all your crates here, you can jump high enough to touch the ending :cat:

Anyway this was really fun! Great job on it!
