FantasyFootball by ScurvyStevon

[raw]
made by ScurvyStevon for Ludum Dare 55 (JAM)

In this game you'll assemble a team of football players and let them play it out in an autobattler fashion, but there's a twist! These aren't regular football players, they're fantasy creatures and the only way to tackle them is by killing them!

Instructions:

OFFENSE: Deploy players by clicking on the player card and placing it on the playing field. Once you have placed your players click on the ball and assign it to a player, they will run the ball for you. Move your mouse around to pick a direction you want the ball carrier to take. A white arrow will show up offering different directions to run. Finally. Press the big square ‘PLAY’ button on the right.

DEFENSE: Deploy players by clicking on the player card and placing it on the playing field. Press the big square ‘PLAY’ button on the right.

Never thought I'd see football and autochess together

Great job!

I enjoyed the concept. Took me a minute to figure out how to play my cards, but once I did I had a great time. Would have enjoyed a little bit more sound or a cheesy DnD-esque track in the background to make the battleground feel as epic as it was!

Really cool! I liked the mix of auto-battler and football. Took me a couple rounds to figure out what was going on. I don't think I ever figured out a good strategy because it seemed like whoever I gave the ball took aggro. So I got to about the 7th round or so and then quit (at that point there were also too many units on board to do anything intelligent). But again awesome idea and nice execution!

I was surprised with the cutscene in the beginning! The concept is super cool too, it was fun to manage the preparation. Nice interpretation of the theme too

Cool crossover between a card game and football. Multiplayer would be cool for this game. Would love to see it expanded on :D just maybe needs a tutorial on what each card does but hey it's a jam game, not gonna complain ^^

very cool game, especially the concept itself, like the chaos that happens

Took some time to figure out how to play this game. The monster football game is a good concept, but the rule about how the monsters will move is hard to predict, which increase the hardness of the beginning.

Idea is very innovative, cool that you've also added a choosing of the ball's carrier direction. Graphics could be simpler, imho too much redundant effects, which also make the game heavier.

Cool aesthetic, it all worked together really well (including the sound effects). Loved the intro cutscene that was a really nice touch to kick off the immersion. Like some of the other commenters it took me a little while to grasp the game but I eventually did. After a few rounds I just started placing stuff down randomly because it was a bit too overloaded with units but I guess that is the genre. Nice work!

Once I figured out how to play the game it was a lot easier.

OFFENSE:
1. Select all you players by clicking on the player card and placing it on the playing field.
2. Once you have selected all of your players click on one of the players you have on the field to carry the ball.
3. Move your mouse around to pick a direction you want the ball carrier to take. A white arrow will show up offering different directions to run.
4. Finally. Press the big square 'PLAY' button on the right.
5. You may have some blue vials left. Ignore them, just choose all the characters you can.

DEFENSE:
1. Select all you players by clicking on the player card and placing it on the playing field.
2. Press the big square 'PLAY' button on the right.

Hope that helps.

Neat game! Although the computer kept getting me by sending the ball down the side. Even when I tried to place my summons to cover it, they would often run elsewhere to fight something. Luckily I could use the same strategy to score my own goals, but it also made the game feel like a dice roll. Also my framerate was kinda bad :(

But overall I had a good time with it, good job!

Very silly! Wish the Phoenix wasn't completely busted in offense's favor (we won every time!!) but we had a blast. Could speed up the gameplay a little, but watching a golem stroll leisurely down the field was pretty funny. Great great work, one of my favs!

As someone with a fair few hours in Blood Bowl 2, I really like the more casual "Auto Chess" approach, and I think a more fleshed out and balanced version could be something truly amazing.

As others have said, speeding the game up a bit (or atleast adding the option) would be a great idea if you go on to continue working on it.

Overall great work, keep it up!
