Yokai Summoners.png

A 2-player game where players take turns summoning yokai on a hex based tile board. When placed, a yokai can convert other yokai on neighboring tiles that are weak to it.

Each player starts with 3 random yokai, and a new random yokai is received at the beginning of every round, offering a balance of tactics and chance.

The game ends when there are no more empty tiles, and the player with the most yokai is crowned the winner.

Nice game, is there usually an uneven amount of squares in such games? Seems like you get to both start and end the round that way. Always love a bar to adjust the sound.

Cute simple game! I really like the art! The "rock-paper-scissor" indicator in the game screen was helpful

Really cool game! I really loved the art and the idea for a rock-paper-scissors way of winning!

@pe7e @gravityflip @sillyman987 Thanks for the kind words!

@pe7e That's a good question I haven't really thought about, as I didn't experiment with different board sizes even though I made a tool to quickly generate them the first day. There is some disadvantage to having the first turn, as you have zero chance of capturing any existing yokai, but it would be interesting if one could generate statistics to indicate if the disadvantage is enough to make up for the extra turn.

Very nice graphics and idea ! The cat is super cute. I was hoping for some chain reaction where summoning a demon could turn multiple things red (demon -> cat -> bird). But maybe its not possible to balance the gameplay with this mechanic. Good job !!

A fun game, played against a friend, and we enjoyed it. Wished the game was shorter though~ but overall a really good game!

I like it, quite a tight game with a lot of polish around it. I would have been nice to have some UI transitions that emphasised the fact that the two non-selected tiles were kept for the next round. Also, the icons in the weakness square look a bit dissimilar to the creatures on the board, which caused one or two unforced errors. But it's great overall, those are the only two issues I ran into.

Fun concept! Wonder what the best strategy is for this. My only nitpick is that it really sucks when you get 2 or even 3 of the same monsters in a turn, there's no really a choice and it can give a huge edge to your opponent.

Fun little game, I like this combination of checkers and rock-paper-scissors and the graphics are beautiful.

Well done!

I love the art style! I had to play against myself because I have no friends  But it seems like it would be a lot of fun and an interesting challenge to work out a good strategy against another person.

This game has just the right scope for a game jam. It feels very polished. I really like the art here.
I wonder if this game comes down to a good strategy or just pure luck, as the yokais you get are random.
I hope youll get to 20 ratings until tomorrow!

Tried it alone, just to see the mechanics. I like the simple idea and the graphics, would have liked some basic idle animations and some sfxs. I think the soundtrack was in a totally different mood which break the immersion. Imho would have been better with just some moody background music, or just the sound of wind or something that evokes ghost and / or japan. Good work overall!
