Make Your Time by ken

[raw]
made by ken for LD33 (COMPO)
Controls:
A and D - Move left and right
W - Enter doors
E - Activate traps/Summon minions/Drink from pools

In Make Your Time you play an evil overlord who is told by his adviser that a boy with a pure heart is coming to fight you. As you watch him as he goes on his journey you will need to weaken him before he gets to your castle and you will need to strengthen yourself.

- Spring traps to slow down and damage the hero
- Summon minions to attack the hero
- Equip a weapon and drink from the pools of mana and health to gain strength
- Once the hero reaches your castle whoever has become the strongest shall win

Notes:
- Audio is messed up on the web version! The best experience is on the stand-alone versions.
- The hero should not get stuck on the pit but if he gets stuck in/on the pit for more than ~3 seconds you will have to restart to finish the game.

Nice work, I'm really impressed with the amount of content here. Plus dialogue/plot, it's a lot more than most other submissions!

I always like the concept of these dungeon keeper style of games.

I didn't get that I was supposed to use the traps at first - I figured it out on the 4th one.

What was the purple stuff for? It doesn't summon monsters or set traps?

A very fun idea! I wish the battle at the end was less of a numbers game and more of an actual battle; maybe having a higher score would make the battle easier.

@notajetski The purple stuff is mana. It currently has no purpose in the game besides adding to the final score but it was originally going to be a resource to use spells in the final battle. I had to cut the final battle due to time constraints though.

@chunkybrewster I agree the battle in the end should have been an actual battle! That was the original idea but about halfway through I had to decide to focus on either the battle part or the sabotaging the hero while you watch him adventure part. I thought the latter was more interesting and new so I decided to go with that.

Haha, this is pretty similar to my interpretation of the theme :) I really like how the monsters and traps you choose show up in the hero's path. I only wish that I could have actually done the final fight myself! Great job!

I didn't really know what I was doing... There needs to be more feedback when you try to activate a trap... but I still had fun. No idea how I won!

I win! 34-29!!

Cool to have both games going on at once... I totally wish there was a cool final showdown though! Nice job, cool concept and I enjoyed the art.

I really liked the interactivity and plot-driven elements of this game. I did get a little bit confused by the trap system, though, so missed quite a few opportunities, I think.

Great Zelda tribute and interesting mechanics! Though could be more polished and variative.

Not too bad, but I have to point out that the spikes got the hero stuck. He constantly died to the zombies there.

Nice game, reminds me of the deathrun games in CS or GMOD.
Loved the idea of having real time indications by your minion.

A lot of potential. Seems easy to win by now. Good work. :)

Very good idea splitting the screen.

It's a short but fun game, and it's amazing you nailed the mechanics in so little time.
