You've been summoned to carrot court for your crimes against carrotkind! But you won't go peacefully! Cause as much mayhem as you can before you're apprehended!

How to Play

  • Use light attacks to build up meter on enemies.
  • Finish off enemies with heavy attacks to knock around and explode them for score.
  • Bonus score from juggling enemies in the air.
  • Build up your combo and don't let it drop!

Includes

  • Rebindable controls.
  • Keyboard and controller support.
  • Full-screen mode and 1/2/3x windowed mode.
  • Volume settings for sound effects and music.

Updates

  • 1.0.1:
    • Fixed being unable to rebind cancel/dash.

Credits and Tools

  • Art and programming by me.
  • Written in Nim on top of SDL2.
  • Audio is a mix of CC0 from Freesound, my own in ChipTone and Peritune's free music, so I'll opt out this time.
  • Sprites done in Aseprite.

Sorry, Windows only but you can download the source and compile for MacOS or Linux locally. Not as fleshed out as I'd like unfortunately but was fun to put together!

Got a score of 730. It's criminal that you've received so few ratings by now - this game is polished to a shine and, even if it's not the most inventive use of the theme, it's still a classic concept executed with panache. One thing I'd change is the sound-effect for the cars - I wish it was a bit more obvious when they are about to cross the screen, as it can get pretty visually chaotic by the time their indicators show - perhaps you could implement a siren sound when they are present in the scene? Anyways, great job!

Thank you for the kind comments.

@marin-davys: Agreed, I was really rushing for sounds at the end and was worried having sirens over and over might be annoying but warning on cars being about to return is big thing I'd want to polish more for both visuals and audio. I've been slacking on rating and feedback so far, so probably not much visibility yet!

Fun game, feels really polished (which is quite cool for a game jam game).
I personally was not comfortable with jumping on 'z' first couple of games, but that's on me. Forgot to check if you can remap bindings, if yes - no problem there at all (again, for me).

The carrots had it coming if you ask me...

Liked this game a lot. Like others said this was incredibly well polished, looks and feels great and is just a really well executed game. Great effort, especially for a solo entry.

Thanks again for the kind comments.

@dagunov: There is indeed controls rebinding in the settings! I definitely prefer to play on controller for it.

This is an absolutely delightful arcade button masher that I will definitely be returning to in my spare time! I will protect this little criminal with my life, I love them so much. And it just feels really good to get like four or five carrots flying at once, and it gets so hectic the more vans you have trying to run you down. Upgrade this with more combos and enemy types and I think this could be an excellent beat 'em up! These controls and mechanics are fantastic. The only thing for me is I was really struggling to rebind the cancel/dash button that I really wanted to make jump. I'm not sure what was up with it. I could make it empty but it didn't want to be anything but its default.

Poor carrots))) Why does this amuse me so much?)) Reminds me of games from the times of Dandy and Sega, sometimes there is a minus with the hitbox of the car, but I didn’t notice any other problems. How I love pixel graphics and I think many people really like it too) Overall it turned out to be quite a funny sticky game

This game looks right up my alley. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work on my laptop. Whenever I open the EXE, it opens a window, then closes almost immediately after. I'm running Windows 11.

This is funnnnn, who know beating up carrots would be so fun lmao

At first the best score I could get was around 700~. I kept trying to do COOL JUGGLES off the side wall, but damn those are hard. Part of me wishes each wall bounce gave extra score haha. As a side note, I didnt realize I could punch upwards until I looked at the game page again and noticed it happening in the gifs.

But then I remembered there was a combo meter, and so...

I know I could do better, but that's my best for now. I am curious what the best dev score is tho :smile_cat:

Anyway, game good! great job!

Thank you again for the comments! (I really need to make time to do some feedback and rating for others too.)

@mistiemaedae: I'll look into that rebinding cancel/dash issue.

@random-storykeeper: Are you running an antivirus by any chance? I've heard some people have had issues with false positives with executables out of the Nim compiler.

@courtneylapin: It's funny you mention, landing heavy attacks in the air does give some bonus score but bonuses in general could've done with more explicit feedback for players. I think my best score is in the 8k range. Glad you had fun!

Really polished! Feels like there aren't many Ludum Dare games which have proper controller support - let alone rebindable controls across the board! (There are *plenty* of games I can think of which definitely could've benefited from the ability to rebind controls...)

If I could suggest one thing: maybe add a GTA-style star-based "heat gauge" alongside the textual one that's already there?

@mistiemaedae: Fixed that rebinding issue now, for some sleep deprived reason I had some commented out!

@ryusui: Thank you! I like that idea. In general I think the game could do with more layers to difficulty, like different enemies appearing at higher wanted levels, more cop vehicles, etc. Maybe a post-jam update would be fun to flesh things out more.

Best I could do after a few goes was 1020, overall great game!
The animations felt punchy, the SFX and audio choices were very fitting.
The vehicles added a nice bit of tension to the game, although I think the jump should cancel the long punch just a touch quicker, because sometimes it feels like its actually impossible to jump quickly enough when the car is on screen (but also, skill issue haha).

The art and animation (and UI!) is probably one of the cleanest and nicest overall i've seen all game jam.

Great work, keep it up!

Very entertaining and polished entry! You really managed to translate the arcade*ish & beat em-up mood with gameplay and visuals. I can easily see how it could be upgraded with a coop mode where both bunnies competing for score and kicking each other in a meanwhile. :rabbit: :rabbit:

Have a nice voting!

Nicely polished game! More combos would have been neat, but for a jam it felt like it accomplished what it needed to. Great job!

Hits the mark with its nice graphics that catch your eye right from the start. The sound design is good, even though you opted out of audio - good choices add impact to the gameplay. While the mechanics may be simple, they're effective, making for smooth and enjoyable gameplay. Overall, it's a solid entry that impressively utilizes the timeframe given. Great job!

Really polished game, super impressive work, I had a surprising amount of fun trying to predict when the cars were going to come back around and trying not to get greedy with the pummeling. Plus, any game where you play as a rabbit is a +1 in my book. Great job!

Thank you so much for the kind comments and ratings! I really appreciate them.

@bbaf: Oh snap, I didn't think about that but that does sound fun being able to punch a friend around and compete on score! Now I want to do an update adding that!
