Game Description

Faust - 2D Side-View platformer game where youre playing as a witch that can summon her personalities, Agness the Red and Lilith the White. Combine each other to beat the level

Characters Description

Agness the Red - aggressive personality that prefers combat and have a low movement speed

Lilith the White - embodiment of benevolence that allows you to heal yourself and have a higher movement speed & double jump

Preface

Once I looked outside my window, I was horrified. All the people of my hometown were gone! And what's even worse, my village was swarmed with demonic abominations!

My name's Lilith and I am a professional witch! Usually I brew potions and help people get rid of their curses. Once, while I was experimenting with dark magic I divided my personality into two complete opposites: Lily and Agness.

Agness was a stranger to love and mercy, while Lily was the embodiment of benevolence. Since then, I learned to summon them and switch between their bodies when I needed their skills.

And now I need them to save my home. It's time to take fate in my own hands! I'm heading to the kingdom! I'm heading to the kingdom through the twilight forest of Schorfheide!

Controls

A/D - Move Left/Move Right

Space - Jump/Double Jump

LMB - Attack

RMB - Dash

E - Interaction

F - Summon / Switch Personality

Scroll Wheel - Adjust Zoom

Love the music!

Not really clear mechanics, nice art and user flow, but defenetly needs polishing.

But still a cool game!

Clever take on the theme! I think the art was definitely your strong suit - the character sprites and environment were gorgeous, and it's clear you spent some dedicated time developing the characters and story.

Also, I'm a sucker for seeing 2d sprites reflected in water, so that's always going to win my vote ;)

Gameplay-wise, I think there's some room for improvement, but mostly on the technical side. Particularly I noticed that the double-jump would almost always get triggered unless I was tapping the spacebar super quick. I think perhaps the double-jump check was looking for the space bar being helled, rather than the space bar being pressed that frame. It would have made the platforming a lot smoother if that wasn't so precise.

I didn't make it to the end, unfortunately it was just really easy to die and it kept me from wanting to go back and try the same section of the level again.

Technical issues aside, a pretty good entry and I had fun playing! Good job :)

I like the core idea of switching between characters with different abilities in this way, reminds me a lot of The Lost Vikings on Sega. I'm amazed how you managed to put together such a huge level full of puzzles with so many art assets! And an original soundtrack! :O
I also found quite fascinating that section when characters meant to be pretty far away from each other, that section gave off completely different feels as opposed to when the characters were close together - nice gameplay storytelling.
I just wish there were no sudden death pits, I mistook one for the way forward at some point :D

The first thing that strikes when launching the game is how crisp the graphics and audio are. The vibe with the two characters reminds me of games from Team Ladybug. The level design gently nudges you into mastering the gameplay, which is rare enough in a gamejam to be mentioned.

Also, great take on the theme!

This game has a lot going for it!

Loved the core mechanic of switching between characters! Lilith and Agness feel very unique to each other which makes switching between them very fun!

Everything felt well explained through the wooden signs and overall was well paced.
Music was very peaceful and charming, really helped went well with the games overall art style.

A bit of polish is needed to fix up some bugs but overall well done!

Great work!

Audio was a stand out for me, it was very clear and sounded great!

Visually I found the particles when killing to be pretty enjoyable, and the art style in general was appealing to look at.

Design wise, some things could use some improvement. Double jumping seemed to activate automatically if I didn't quickly let go of spacebar. Combat would get a bit finicky at times, especially with hitboxes feeling a bit too small. That said, the swap mechanic was pretty interesting and fun to play with.

It should be noted that I found a bug where I fell into some spikes as Lily and went into negative HP without losing the game.

Overall, solid game, keep it up!

Very nice puzzle platformer !
The graphics is really on top !
Unfortunally the zoom/dezoom of the view create aliasing on sprite (3d sprite because of unity) or maybe its because the character art is more detailled than the background draw, but that's a choice that make the game completely clear and understandable.
The hitbox of the ennemies are huge and difficult to really understand, these made the fighting not very satisfaying.
The web version on the Ludum Dare website take an eternity to load i recommand to use the itchio web playable version.

Good art, the mechanism of two people switching cooperation makes me think of some two-player games, in the operation feel can be greatly improved, the player's attack range may can be larger, but it is really cool to hook the monster.

I really enjoyed the core concept here, although the prototype could've used a little more polish, for example on the platforming physics or being able to attack in a direction while walking in another. The art is very detailed for the screen size/camera angle so either making it simpler or getting the camera closer could help with clarity. Overall interesting concept, nice work!

I liked the character switching mechanic. It's a creative mechanic that gives good possibilities in relation to gameplay. It was fun to think of solutions to get through different parts of the level.

The graphics are super nice overall.
One thing i feel like i was missing - which made me stop midway through, as having to bring my other "personality" to me all the time - where lily feels fun & fast, agness feels slow. If i could maybe walk with both at the same time that would be cool i think :D

I really love the look of the game, great job on that front! The sound design and music were also very nice.

However, the gameplay felt a bit slow. I feel like the Lilith character needs something more to do, other than being a dedicated button-presser. Her movement feels very nice, so I think you need to utilize it in some way.

Nevertheless, it's a very impressive-looking game, and I'd like to see more of it!

Great art and gameplay, I think my main takeaway is that I would have wanted to see more interplay between the two characters - felt kind of binary about when to use each of them. I would have liked it if Lilith had some use in combat, for example, so i'd get the gameplay of switching between two people during a fight. Still, lots of fun and good execution, great job!

Really fun game! I loved the aspect of having two characters with very different feel and playstyle, and one being non combat focused was a great choice. Loved the little details like the water reflecting and having multiple backing tracks.

I did manage to fall off on a platform while switching once, but other than that it was great! Great job!

There was an old game called Fire and ice , its has same gameplay and main mechanic with 2 characters to control but without fighting sections, gameplay is good but not as fun and very easy, music and sound are very good, but graphicly this game is to simple, i also liked the different things about the characters, overall good game...

What you built was pretty cool, and fun enough to play. The dynamic of swapping between the characters was nice, the combat was a bit clunky with so much delay on starting the attack.

Edit: Tutorialization was well done.

The art style is cool, the art content is a bit tasteless in my opinion (but hey, we all have our own opinions).

I gave a fair rating, but it was somewhat classless to leave a rude comment on my team's project when many (probably most) participants in my team are amateurs/hobbyists/students just trying to learn.

Great art and sound! I especially like the background parallax effect. Really sweet! Unfortunately, the basic gameplay itself is kinda janky. Especially the attacking requires some getting used to. Also, was the dash required at any point? Or was it just a flavor mechanic for the combat? Anyway, the level design is good, and I feel it leverages the swapping mechanic nicely.

18. Apr 2024 · 20:10 UTC
I enjoyed the character swap dynamic. It was entertaining to be limited in the obstacles you could pass without support from the other character. As I got further into the game, it started to become kind of confusing as to which lever I was supposed to hit and unclear if I missed one, so I ended up stuck.

I did find the players a little small on-screen and would have preferred them a bit bigger, but that's a personal preference.

Overall it was well put together and had everything necessary for quality gameplay. Good job!

Had a fun time playing it! The character swapping was pretty good.

I think the biggest feedback would be that healing feels bad to do. I basically swapped to Lily and took a snack break while I was waiting for the bar to fill up. Was kind of boring, might have seen an improvement if healing was an ability with a long cool down instead of making me wait to get health back slowly.

Another piece of feedback is I could complete about 80% of the level with just Lily. I was forced to use Agness only 2 or so times but could otherwise fly over the level.

The swapping mechanic is great - it reminds me of It Takes Two, but for one player. Gotta get both characters all the way through, but they'll have to take different routes. I appreciate the in-game guidance early on as I'm learning the ropes. It makes everything flow naturally. All the details - the particle effects when your weapon smacks something, the parallax background - are great!

The reflections seemed to be off, though? My reflection was somewhere off in front of me at one point. It was mildly disorienting.

I love the feel and how the puzzles are done. It reminds me of Trine, which is high praise because I think the Trine games have some of the best combinations of puzzles and platforming.

It would be nice to not have the various personalities have to be apart for so long, but I understand why that game design choice was made.

The music fits the game super well.

I think it's a good idea to show the name of the personality under the portrait. Another problem is when you switch back to the personality you've left far behind. To solve the problem you should either spawn the other personality closer, which will subvert the idea, or work harder on level design.

Other than that, a charming game!

This was pretty fun, and a good take on the theme. I enjoyed the gameplay, although it became a bit stale after some time. Graphics are good (I... "enjoy" the artwork for the game quite a lot as well), however I think the sprites are a bit too small? Everything feels too "zoomed out". Great job on this entry!

Graphics and audio in this game are top-notch. I especially like the drawing of Lilith the White — a very beautiful woman. Unfortunately I only have 6GB of RAM and there was too much lag time with the game itself, though I did make some progress. Music is just as good as the artwork. In general, the idea that you can "summon" different personalities is very imaginative. Nice work.

The mechanic is a good take on the theme, graphics is nice and music is super relaxing. Love this entry!

Nice artstyle and background music. Aside from some character controller clunkiness/jank it doesn't feel like a 3 day jam game at all, well done to all the team!

Really interesting game ! Love the art style and the music ! I was expecting a little camera to show what happen when the Lilith and Agness are far from each other, but that was a really funny game.

The overall art and music is good. Really like the background, but the UI and player characters could improve a bit more. If you zoom in a little bit and make the character jump faster (and shorter) would be nice. Great job, team :D

I love the art and music in this game! You've even got some environmental story telling with the background pieces, nice! The concept is really neat, and the game feels very much complete. Probably one of the only games with a decent tutorial too!

There's so much content and gameplay in it! Came for the art, stayed for the puzzles :D
