Monster World Domination by RilleP

[raw]
made by RilleP for Ludum Dare 55 (COMPO)

This is a very simple real time strategy game. You click with your mouse to summon monsters in the world. These monster will fight and conquer. The world is divided into territories, each with a flag. A territory can be captured by being the only team with monsters standing next to the flag. The monsters fight and move around automatically, they always target the closest enemy monster or flag.

There are only two type of monsters: - Ghost: Mobile melee fighter, can capture flags. - Skeleton: Stationary killing machine with a ranged attack.

Summoning any one monster costs 5 mana.

Territories give mana every second to the owner.

All monsters take damage over time, slowly dying for no reason.

Hotkeys to switch monster is 1 and 2.

You made a really neat game! I'm super impressed by the enemy AI! And I like the different maps you made, especially the addition of Europe is a nice touch. At times I did feel like I was just spamming ghosts since archers are nice and all but due to them dying over time they become useless the second there are no enemies around. I would have also liked if I did not have to click for each single ghost especially on the bigger maps since you get mana so fast. The mana system felt a bit snowbally. The sound effect and music were great!

Overall, a fun and simple game that's well-themed. It's very straightforward, but winning definitely gives you a little rush of dopamine. It's lacking in sound design and UX, but that's understandable for a jam game. The AI is impressive. With some graphic and UX polish, I could see this game being suitable for mobile.

It is a very nice little real-time strategy game. It can go much further and you know that. Music is nice, graphics are nice developer graphics. Bravo!!!

- Interesting idea for a strategy game
- I found the colors representing the difficulty would often not be accurate, for example on the first map (named 2), I could not beat the easy color, but I had no problem on hard
- The music would stop at some point, and having so many units making so much sound made the audio buzz
- It looks and sells itself as a strategy game, but is more of a dexterity game since you have to spam buttons in the late game, it also make it unlikely for come backs. since you get a point for each territory a second if you have 10 you need to click 2 times a second, preferably in different places, and also switch between the two types constantly. Even tho I played on EU with hard color, had 1 territory when whole map was covered and managed to win (after furious spamming).
- I know there were ghosts and stuff, but I still felt bad when the enemy crosses what looks like water to back door me.

Surprisingly challenging haha ! The simple loop works very well. The game shines on the maps with more ai players where you have to carefully think about where to allocate your limited mana. Only gripe is that once someone starts snowballing, it's pretty difficult to come back.

Good job, especially managing to make a working strategy game during the compo timeframe !

Reminds of "Defender of Crown", but in realtime. The game needs more feedback in UI and some more details, but that's for after the compo. Well done on a nice concept!

Simple idea that you executed really well. It's winnable, but there's not a moment to spare. The maps have unique characteristics. The objectives are clear. The march music goes really well. Ready for battle! This is fun.

Wow! This is great. Such simple mechanics, but still a lot of strategy involved. I especially like that your units are vulnerable while they are being summoned, so you have to summon them just close enough for them not to die before fully summoned. Super fun, great job!

This is fun but has some balancing issues, which is understandable given the short time.

How hard it is to win! Otherwise, effective design and fully immersed in the theme. Well done!

Under simple structure, it is a quite engaging game and even challenging at some points. With a little polish and juice it can be much more. Nice job!
