Flockin' Demons by Bewelge

[raw]
made by Bewelge for Ludum Dare 55 (COMPO)

Use your mouse to move your necromancer. Find Pentagrams to summon minions to help you fight off enemies. The minions will flock around you. Hold down the left mouse button to make them swarm the nearest enemy.

Only started with this today and created it entirely in a 10 hour run with a small break to eat, so it's a little rough around the edges. Still quite happy with the result considering the short time frame.

Will add more info tomorrow. Too tired now :)

Nice work! At some point the audio stopped working on the spawning the summons but besides that pretty impressive for making it in 10 hours!

Awesome work on this one!

it overall felt very polished with a great atmosphere.
some more complexity could be added to the gameplay loop but besides that very solid submission!

Agree the atmosphere is great and very on theme, the mechanic to summon your minions to help is fun - especially considering you made it in 10 hours! I'd love to see summoning different types of minions - awesome game.

That's pretty impressive in 10 hours and in just plain JS. I really, REALLY love the sounds and the atmosphere they create. Those are probably the best sounds and mood I have seen so far. Well done!

Very impressive with your timeframe. I do wish there was a bit more to it after a short run, but for 10 hours, I don't know how you could have done any better.

Simple but very efficient. I love the idea and the attention to details.
Really nice game given the time you had!

Really clean implementation of the theme. I tested this first on Firefox and it was in slow motion. With chrome it worked correctly.

Very tight little game. I might just be bad at it, but I couldn't get my little guys to live for very long or kill anything.

@ben-albert Thank you! I noticed that about the audio, but I was pretty annoyed by that particular sound, so I chose to de-prioritize fixing that :D

@meepster Thanks! I agree on the complexity. Just had to keep it simple in the short time frame. I do wish I'd had time to implement some power-ups though :)

@impalpable @dzejpi Thank you! Really happy you liked the sounds and atmosphere. I'm not good at picking sounds so that aspect is always a bit lucky for me

@owtuvammo @sstyles93 Thank you!! :)

@denvil Oh right, I believe Firefox gets really slow when you mix WebGL and 2d-Canvas. Happy that you got it working fine in Chrome though!

@xeltide The minions sometimes bug out and will insta-kill / insta-die when they hit an enemy. The best strategy I found while testing was making the enemies follow you with your minions behind the enemies and then quickly circle back behind your minions. The enemies have a tighter turning radius so they will then collide into your minions.

Hi there, pretty nice polish and atmosphere for just 10 hours! And I really liked the base mechanics too! However I think I don't fully understand the game  I mean at least what I experienced was that after 20 tries my record was like 3 kills and 4 summons. Because everytime I summoned something, enemies always quickly took like 30% of my health. So after 3 summons I was just going around and around to survive, while my minions didn't really fight them, because they couldn't catch them (I was holding down the left mouse button). And as soon as I stopped to summon something again or just to let me minions fight a bit, the enemies got me, I was dead.

Could you help me out on finding a better strategy? Thanks in advance, cheers! :)

I very like the mechanic. It's simple, but I knew that I can spend hours in such kind of games. Very good idea.

Not bad for 10 hours at all! I made the mistake of trying to play in Firefox first. Much better in Chromium lol.

Diggin the vibes on this one. The camera view and small character graphics remind me bit of Gauntlet, which I love. I know it was a rush to make this, but the difficulty ramps up reaaaally quickly and I think it would make for a smoother user experience to try to slow that down a bit. Overall fun concept -- simple and effective!

Very nice, I like the central idea behind the game. It good had flow to it. I also really liked the echo in the audio, that combined with the graphics and limited view set a really good mood. Great job!

Nice job, impressive you made this so quickly. I think the base difficulty is a bit high and could have benefited from some slower increase, but as you said you only did this in 10 hours. Nice work!

Very cool concept and the lighting/sounds do a great job of setting the mood!
