Summoners Word by aevek

[raw]
made by aevek for Ludum Dare 55 (COMPO)

You are the great sorcerer Lord Dictio Nary, use your carefully prepared summoning circles to bring demons into this world by tracing the lines according to the hidden words. Find the hidden words in each layer of each circle, and marvel at the demonic chaos you have unleashed.

How to play: - Each ring has a word that starts and ends with the same letter as the 'correct' solution. - Any word that uses every letter in a ring and forms a loop by starting and ending with the same letter is an equally valid answer. - Click letters on screen or type them on the keyboard to select. Once a word is accepted the ring will immediately complete. - Use backspace or the on screen buttons to delete/clear your answer if you change your mind

Tools used: - Engine: Bevy 0.13 - Art: Aseprite - Words: The dictionary.txt file from my linux system

Known Bugs:

  • There is a weird rendering issue sometimes in the web build where lines are incorrectly ordered. I've done what I can but it still shows up sometimes. Such is life in Compo.
  • Due to questionable font choice, some of the letters look quite similar. The 'Y' on the first level is not a 'V'

Wasn't sure I'd be able to get anything together on this one. Doing LD while sick is a bad choice and no one should follow my example, but a game happened anyway.

If anyone tries to read my source, I'm very sorry. If any of the wonderful team behind Bevy see this code, doubly so. I may be getting more comfortable in Bevy, but wow does sick brain still manage to produce spaghetti.

Ha maybe I am just very bad at word games but I couldnt get past the first screen I could not think of a word that used AEVHM and started and ended with the same letter. But I liked the concept, my fiance plays something similar on the phone. It would be nice to have a tutorial to help me out and the font was a little tough the V looks like a Y, maybe it is a Y. Not sure.

I'm bad at word games in general, but I like this concept. The letters were a bit confusing sometimes with the font.

Interesting concept but as others mentioned maybe clearer font would improve it. Took me embarassingly long to realise that it is an C and not a bracket. Imagine my confussion :D Netherless great job!

I love the idea, but I only got the second one by accident and I'm completely stumped on the third one.

Finished all the puzzles! I'd love to have a dailies version of this. It would be nice if the first letter could have a little dot or indicator that I've already started a word because I tried to type the first letter twice a few times. Big fan of wordy puzzle games and I think this nails that vibe! Extra fun that sometimes there's more than one answer. Thank you for sharing!

Like the idea. I suck at anagrams nevermind looping anagrams, so only got past first two entries.

Some indication of whether you are on the right track or not may be useful, though not sure how to do that without flipping it to being too easy.

As others I had problem with the font. I thought the C was bracket, I had to come back here and check the comments. The idea however is excellent. So a bit of a cleanup and you've got a great game!

Yeah! More word games!

I liked this quite a bit. It was well executed and I enjoyed figuring out the words.

Nice idea, but it was far to hard for a non English speaker to figure out. But that was me failing, not you :)

Fun puzzle, glad you were able to finish something. and cool someone else used bevy! I was able to get past the first few levels but kind of got stuck. Would really like some first letter limited hint to at least get on the right track although I realize starting/ending letters is the primary clue it's easy just to feel stuck.

I completed the first two and then got stuck (not very good at word games) but I have to say this is a wonderful wonderful word puzzle game! Excellent work and hugely thematic!
