Deep in Sheep

You quit your job and move to the mountains to herd sheep so your boss sent some ex-colleagues to bring you back.

Use your extensive soul-reaping experience to make your timid sheep more battle ready.

Controls:

WASD - Classic movement.
Mouse - Left click to order your flock around.

Story

We wanted to build a game centered around a flocking algorithm which makes a bunch of entities behave and move like a flock. What better flock to implement than a flock of sheep!

It started simple but quickly escalated. We wanted to add some many different sheep with interesting mechanics, different summoning recipes, fancy effects, ... We had to make some adjustments along the way but we are proud of what we have achieved. Made it just in time to submit!

Everything in the game but the audio was made from scratch in the last 3 days. That includes all the 3d models, animations, effects levels and code. We always try to start with a blank slate and do everything ourselves yet this time we didn't have time for music :(

Known issues

  • The summoning menu is currently a bit clunky since we broke it with some last minute input fixes. If it seems unresponsive, try randomly clicking somewhere.

Have fun!

Update v0.2

We did a small update post submit, fixing some small bugs and optimizing the game a bit. Both versions are available to play.

Here's the whole list: -Fixed intro cutting off too soon. Added skip. -Fixed camera sometimes ending up in a tree -Fixed background music not looping. -Sheep commands now happen on click. -Added particles when sheep die. -Fixed summon currency going into negatives. -Fixed summoning a bit -Added button to spawn basic sheep

Haha it was super fun! Really hard to win, but hey I was able to summon armed sheeps to fight my old reaper colleagues, the least I can say is that it's super original ^^
Cool flocking system, would have loved to see it with physics between each sheep
Good job!

Very fun gameplay. And the sheep crafting system was spot on ;)

A little laggy for me and the dragging the sheep into the summoning box did not work that well. Otherwise it was fun finding the different combinations, although it would been cooler if combining special sheep would give you better ones and not just another one you could also randomly get through combining basic sheep. Great job overall ^^

Hmm. I spent a few minutes with this but wasn't able to figure out how to play it exactly. The game is super laggy but I liked the visuals in spite of that.

It took me a bit to figure it out, but the game is so much fun! The concept is really original and I am very impressed with how many sheep variations there are. Really nice job! :)

Oh, that's the game I like! I had to sacrifice my sheeps wisely because it's getting more risky with waves. Nice visuals, relaxing audio, cool mechanics - good work!

Well, let's go kill crowds of enemies with the help of a sheep?) It turned out to be a funny beating) In terms of graphics, the game is quite simple, but I really like the mechanics of “kill everyone who spawns”, I’m a fan of all kinds of survival games, like vamvire survivor, so I really enjoyed it this game, I would add a little more variety of enemies and dynamism to the main character)

Love the many different sheep variations, sadly the game was laggy for me so I wasn't able to really get into it. I do wonder what kind of job was the hero working before he quit :D

Took me a couple runs to get the summoning mechanic between waves. No clear difference between clicking a sheep icon, dragging it, clicking the point left arrow, clicking the X when a sheep is dragged onto the circle, and clicking the Summon button.
Your flocking algorithm was a bit lacking on the separation principle but fun nonetheless.
Anyway, good entry (and bonus points for Unreal)!

The pathfinding of sheep/enemies units works well! although the tend to stack their positions together lol; in a certain wave (like at wave 5-6 iirc), all my sheep died and then I can’t do anything to counter the enemies, even though I have summon power I can’t open the summon menu to summon more sheep to fight the enemies, so I was kinda forced to lose the game ;`) hope I could summon sheep on the go during the wave.

Fun game! took me a while to understand the summoning mechanics, but was fun after that was taken care of!

Its mega addicting and super hard. Got to wave 14 but then died :(
As others pointed out already, the enemies and sheep quickly form singularities that run into each other..
What I missed the most was some explanation and stats of the different sheep types to base my gameplay decisions on.

You guys were able to make a very nice game! The summoning crafting thing was nice and seeing all the different type of sheep was a lot of fun. Great job guys!
