GODAI: The Ninja Way by exofrenon
Godai (五大) are the five elements in Japanese Buddhist thought of earth (chi), water (sui), fire (ka), wind (fu), and void (ku).
It is also a pun for "Go Die"
GODAI is a retro 2D sidescroller, inspired by the Ninja Gaiden for the NES in which you can control the 4 elements of Wind, Water, Earth and Fire.
Controls (keyboard):! - Move: Arrows - Sword attack: Z - Projectile: X - Jump: Space - Magic: Hold Shift + Arrows - Pause: Escape
Controls (Gamepad): - Move: Analogue Stick / D-pad - Sword attack: X - Projectile: B - Jump: A - Magic: Hold LT + a face button - Pause: Start

Unfortunately, I didn't scope correctly for a solo project (again) and I have not managed to implement even half of what I wanted (like sounds and music, one more stage that would actually let you use the 4 elements, a boss fight, cinematics).
In the v1.0 build there is also an issue with the camera system (as always, Unity's pixel perfect camera is acting up again on the last moment) which will be fixed in subsequent releases.
UPDATE (16/04/2024)
I had a couple of game breaking bugs (the camera and not jumping high enough to overcome a wall) which have been fixed in version v1.1 and on the embdedded webgl player
UPDATE (17/04/2024)
Added the much necessary sound effects + music and also added a different background for the second stage on build v2.0. Maybe I will add a final 3rd stage in a future version.

Even if the game is not fully complete what I've seen is really good and has a lot of potential, great job :)
The music, the graphics, the animation, the sound FX ... everything is spot-on (except maybe the jump sound, a little bit too distracting!). You did a really great job here, it's so rare to see a game labeled as retro / NES ... which is actually faithful to the real thing!
Keep up the good work, there are only two levels and that's too bad, but if there had been 10 or even 20, I think I would have (tried to!) played through all of them!
There were minor glitches that you might already have spotted (like the vertical scrolling sometimes being jerky), but overall it's pretty polished.
More levels, more enemies, and pits (you need them to be truly Ninja Gaiden :) ) , this is what we want !!!
I played both v1.1 and 2.0, and the music + sound effects really add a lot to the game making it a lot more fun to play.
I feel like the difficulty was pretty bang on as well.
I found the horizontal move was a bit laggy and didn't let me turn as fast as I wanted to. Nothing major, but I would work on that to have a snappier controller.
Really great job! Good luck.
Nice retro esthetics, awesome sound and quite big challenge!
Okay but for real though, this game can be brutal at times, but in a way fighting with the controls also matches the spirit it so thoroughly emulates, so in a way it brings everything together.
