Space Invaders by Jiri Hysek

A swarm of weird space insect-like replicator robots attacked our space station. Although they are deadly, they are luckily quite primitive. Your mission is to eliminate those (tiny) creatures. Go to the training room and then clear out all 8 levels of the base.
You can kill enemies by jumping on them or by good old shooting. But be careful, we equipped you with bouncy bullets!
About the game
The game is basically an action platformer.. sort of. There is artificial centrifugal gravity. There is no up and down. The outer circle works as a floor, inner circle (if there is one) as a ceiling. You are a spider so you can crawl on the ceiling too but when you leave it, the gravity (or centrifugal force) pulls you "down" to the outer edge.
The game is easy and short. I'm super happy with the visuals and animations. I hope you'll enjoy it!
Music
I'd love to create a sci-fi variant of The Blue Danube by Johann Strauss as a little easter egg (do you remember 2001 Space Odyssey movie?). But it came to my mind too late, so I didn't make it (there is only some kind of simple ambiance) So please at least imagine the music while playing the game :)

Local multiplayer?
It would be cool, wouldn't it? Maybe I can add it in a post-compo version just to see how fun it could be...

I f*cking love your ideas haha. This is SO good. I can totally see this as a full game idea. It's challenging, it's fun, but it's easy to understand. Haven't experienced any bugs, and the gameplay is smooth as always. Art is amazing and sound effects are great.

This was fun to play. Something about the clinking sound of the footsteps combined with the soft glow of the visuals made it feel strangely relaxing, even though I was getting shot at.
The first time gravity flipped when I double-jumped, really hooked me. Flipping back and forth between the platforms, and even being able to jump clear to the other side of the level was really fun. It was also cool that your own bullets hurt you (and the enemies bullets hurt them), so spamming bullets wasn't a super great option for me, since I inevitably got hit by my own shots when trying to reach the exit.
My only complaint is that the jumping was inconsistent while I was moving. It only seemed to trigger about half of the time, which lead to some frustrating deaths. I started always double-jumping, because that seemed to be a consistent way of getting off the ground.
Overall, great work, and a really fun exploration of the movement mechanics!
Anyway, thanks for your feedback and I'm glad you still find it fun :)
Ohh and the graphics are very nice. Looks very nice style.
I agree, though. It would feel more consistent if you had to double jump to get to the other side no matter what other side it is.
And I was thinking about hotseat multiplayer, it could be cool!
Thanks for your feedback!
Good job!
The mechanics look hard, but once you play a few levels, you get used to it and it's very fun. Those robot insects won't dare to attack again. I loved stomping them.
I think hotseat multiplayer is a great idea as well, both coop and versus could be very fun! I'll make sure to try it again if you add that.

The visuals are great. The creatures are well-designed and clean, the animations are juicy, and the color work is very good. Really a pleasure to look at. The game plays well, and I didn't experience any bugs (ekhhh... except for the bugs that I was killing... while being yet another bug ). The concept of a circular "platformer" is unique - at least, I never played anything like that.
It's all really impressive, and doubly so when I consider that it's a compo game! I wish I had some improvement suggestion for you, but I got nothing. It's great. On a side note, the first thing I did on level 1 was promptly kill myself with my own bullet . Like a pro! And my favorite level was 7.
As to your hotseat multiplayer question - personally, I neither care for multiplayer games nor do I play them, so I would not play such a mode. But I see that this could work and be fun for those who enjoy such things.
