Germinator: Knock Out the Tiny Invaders!

You play as a germ-fighting hero with a fistful of fury, equipped with the ultimate weapon: The Germinator, a high-powered spray that launches flying punches to pulverize tiny germs. These pesky invaders swarm from all directions, and it's up to you to unleash your punch-packed attacks and clear the area of contamination.

Instructions:

  • Use arrow keys to move and dodge the germ swarm.
  • Do not die.

But be careful — The Germinator boasts a 99% effectiveness rate, and if you fall, it's that elusive 1% of germs that gets the last laugh... and they’re not pulling any punches!

Can you keep the tiny threat in check and prove that you’re the ultimate germ-slaying champion?

This was pretty fun, just a couple of things I'd like to point out. The first is that the music was a bit too repetitive, (but that's more a personal preference I guess) and the other is that I'm just not sure that the upgrades are working? At least there is no description of what they do and there's no obvious visual change to the gameplay after you choose one? Maybe it's just me and it's late at night and I'm missing something obvious, or maybe something is broken? Either way some clearer indication of what I'm choosing would go a long way to improving this.

All of that aside, I really like your art and the gameplay is fun. Nice game for a weekend's work! Hope you continue making games.

UPDATE !
We have added a description to the skill cards, so it's easier to understand what they do!
@historymaker118 thanks for your feedback :)

Cool game! I love brotato and vampire survivors so it was an instant like from me. Sometimes I got hit without the enemies touching me and the big "hahaha" text was annoying, but overall a fun game :)

the graphics, sound and motion design of the ui are really cool, it's very fun to play, it would have been necessary to have more space on the map to be able to manage so many creatures :D They can also spawn on us it's a little frustrating despite the hitbox being permissive which is good. Keep it up !

I liked it very cool.

It was fun to play this game. overall, it was interesting to pass several levels to level up skills. The only negative thing was the music was growing and it was too loud. In general it was fun.

I got through several waves by increasing my attack speed as much as possible, and the "whap whap whap" sound of dozens of flying fists was extremely satisfying - Great job on the sound effects!

It would have been nice if there was more visual feedback as you got hit so that you notice the impact immediately - When I finally ended up dying, it came as a complete shock to me because I hadn't realized that I had taken any damage up until that point

Great work! I had a fun time playing. I especially liked the smooth animation of the UI. The transition between gameplay and upgrade screen feels really satisfying. One thing I'd like to point out though is that the text is quite big (HAHAHA...) and covers a lot of screen space making it hard to see some of the enemies. Other than that top notch.

i enjoyed the game a bunch. my game got laggy at later waves but that might be on me. the core concept is fun and its executed really well. would've liked a little more enemy variety, but for a weekend its enough. great job!

@shlolo @magalek _HAHAHAH_ was risk of rain reference, but I think they did that part a lot better hahah

thanks a lot for playing :)

Ah, I didn't play risk of rain so this one's on me :)

Overall fun entry, however after about wave 17 it got less and less playable, and I had to stop at wave 20 since my computer couldn't handle the lag anymore - I mostly just spent trying to outrun the monsters in the end without killing many at about one frame every 1-3 seconds

So that would be my biggest criticism: It gets very unplayable in the later waves, some optimization would've helped tons.

@rynti TBH we didn't expect people to play so far haha
yes some good optimisation would do good to our game!

thanks a lot for playing

Great submission! I instantly got the AHAHAH reference to risk of rain, and the sounds were super satisfying. Well done for that!
I enjoyed playing it, however gameplay was 100% of "run clockwise, if a wave spawn on me run anticlockwise". Vampire survivor mitigate that will different builds and different enemies forcing you to move in a different direction, sometime dodge and sometime go through. Here the gameplay is more fast-paced so maybe an ability of some sort would've helped! Not a biggy and a real great game for a 72h jam, well done <3

@laywelin thanks for playing and your feedback! yes we took some references from risk of rain :D

yeah after some playthoughts of the last versions we found out that best way to beat is to get high movement speed + just avoid them. We had some ideas to balance the movement speed and stats but no time left :(

we also had many many ideas for mods+weapons, but... no time haha

Nice Work. Sometimes the swarm was spawning on me, giving me instant damage. But other than that nice game. gj

i love bullet hell / vampire survivor like games! i'm very happy to come across a bullet hell in this jam. There are some good ideas and energy in yours, well done! However, I've come across a few points that I think could be improved:
- the music could do with a little more variations
- I had trouble understanding when the bugs were hurting my character and by how much.
- I also had trouble seeing the point of increasing my movement speed, because the bugs always ended up sticking to my character.
- I didn't perceive the differences between the bugs (do they have more or less HP? do they attack differently? does the player have to attack them differently?): as the targets are very close together, I don't think it helps to distinguish their characteristics.
- I didn't understand the “ahahahahah” flashing on the screen. Could I click on it? (I didn't test it)

Hope you could develop your concept later! Congratulations for this gamejam!

Really fun game, I love this kind of game and you've done a really good version here, great job. I feel like it could do with maybe some different attack types, something clear the screen would be really useful.

It's a very cool game, but I don't like the soundtrack and the way the opponents spawn on the level. I understand that this is inspired by brotato, but there opponents do not appear literally a centimeter away from the player.

Cool game. Upgrading the character was satisfying. I would have hoped for a bit more options or variation for the upgrades, like a few more to the pool. Maybe it could benefit to have a bit bigger level or some random elements. Now there wasn't much more to do than to just run away from the enemies. Anyways I enjoyed playing it.

Instantly thought oh baby its Brotato meets Covid haha! Nice execution on the game, works well :)

Definitely a good foundation you can build off to add some more complexity if you wanted (weapons, effects, etc.) :)

This was really enjoyable! My biggest piece of feedback is that the rocking background was a bit... sea-sick-inducing. It was a bit nauseating to have the background rocking back and forth slowly, but other than that, the game was a lot of fun.

I recorded myself playing to provided extra feedback:

@100th-coin hey! thanks a lot for your feedback :) really nice seeing someone playing our little jam game haha

- There are a few things going on based on the combo: camera effect, music tracks added and combo message getting more intense. But we didn't manage to balance this well, at some point it's always at 100% (HAHAHA + max camera movement) so it might be too much!

- Attack speed is the way to go (is super broken) - we didn't have the time to really balanced all this, I think it was like +15% each upgrade, which is not much for damage and A LOT for attack speed!

again, thanks for playing and reporting it :)

very nice ui and animations, fun gameplay loop and nice looking art. sometimes the enemy spawn felt a little unfair

Simple and fun gameplay. Enemies spawning mid map seems unfair but overall a good variation of VS.

That was really great! Super fun and satisfying especially upgrading the speed stat. Loved all the attention to detail with the little animations, camera movement, etc. Spawning was a bit of an issue because towards the end there was no way to really not get spawned on top of but other than that great work!
