The Fish that Figured it Out by Dean Goodson

[raw]
made by Dean Goodson for Ludum Dare 56 (JAM)

cover_image.png

The fish need to go to outer space. They figured it out.

This is an idle game, so players should expect it to take 40 minutes to complete!

Use different specialized fish to build the rocket ship to escape the planet and go to outer space. Will you be able to guide them there?

Left click is the only input.

All assets, SFX, and music were made during the game jam

(Made using Godot 4.3, Procreate, and Pro Tools)

This is cute! I like speeding up the fish so they zoom around more, but I think I zoomed them too fast and they got stuck, they would just swim around and not go to the ore. I also feel like the game is quite slow and it would be nicer to get a little factory going earlier in the game, just slightly cheaper fish really. But overall it was a nice little relaxing experience, nice job^^

This game is painfully slow to start. Would recommend shifting gears to not buying move speed and increasing game speed.

AHH I BUILT THE ROCKET! It took about an hour to finish, I could've built it earlier but I wanted buy all of the horn fish and I'm glad I did because seeing all of them run into the rocket was so adorable. The music was so cute and seeing my fish empire thrive was so satisfying. The cream background is easy on the eyes and I really like the sfx. What a cute game, I hope my fish are happy in space :)

I have the feeling this game was sped up during testing for development ;). No offense, but it feels like one of those idle games you play at the side which take forever to complete.
Yet I love the graphics and animations. Super cute, chill and fun to watch fish work.

@jellyfishhunter Thanks for your feedback! It is supposed to be an idle game where things begin ramping up after a while. Hope this helps! :3

The artwork is very very cute. The game does take quite a while to get going, but I love how peaceful it is.

This is cute! I'm a big idle game fan, but I'm especially a fan of idle games where I get to watch lil guys running around doing their thing! The music is lovely, and I love the simple colors and art!

I love it. The idle games. Then i hate you for that (because of the idle game addiction), but i love you too. THANK YOU for putting an idle game in this gamejam.
(Otherwise, everything is perfect: the graphics, the sound design, the theme, the rocket, even the credits. Bravo!!!!!)

This is a very cute and very addictive game!
It's a bit slow, but the nice graphics and music make you relax.

However, my only horn fish seems to be stuck in the top right corner, which prevents me from progressing and I have to start over...

So adorable! Excellent art and mood. I love idle games and I liked seeing the tiny fishies go zoom when we clicked on them. Built the ship, took about half an hour and it was a great half an hour. Let me tell you, if it was a paid Steam game, I would buy it and spent a whole weekend on it :)

Had no problem of pacing and slowness of the game. It was more about the resources were not balanced. I stopped upgrading 1st and 3rd fishies after a while as I had excessive number or resources and I didn't need any more to finish the game. Other than that, great job!

I am taking a bit of a break from work so I checked out the game because I saw a post and the artstyle and name caught my attention.

This was the perfect game to play, just relaxing and nice and the the presentation is excellent feel too. It's/ pleasant to look at and cozy especially with the pastel color palette. The music was also great, subtle and it didn't get old even by the time I finished.

I really enjoy games with the simple gameplay loop of buying upgrades and slowly seeing things move more efficiently, it's very satisfying.

Great entry!

The game is overall good, but the art style is remarkable, even if simple. It's a relaxing game with a nice vibe. I like it!

The web version seems to work great, I tried it with a touchscreen and everything was working well !

Your art and music is really cute and cozy. It really is coherent and help to create a nice cozy mood.

The gameplay was fine, however I do agree with other it was a real slog at the beginning before things start to ramp up. Maybe adding something else to do other than clicking the fish could help for the beginning, at least for people that doesn't feel like putting the game on the background.

I feel like this game could work really well as an Idlegame Wallpaper ahah

Congrats for this relaxing entry !

Very cute game, tho I ran into a bug (I think) where I had 3 base miner fish and as soon as I got my first lazer fish they stopped working, only floating about which hard locked me as there was no longer a way to progress without the initial resource.

Another Godot game, I love seeing it.

This game is so charming. The little fish, the music, the way they zoom around when you click on the fish. The game seems to be tuned for a very long experience, which is quite unusual for a game jam, but works out very well for this as it encourages you just to let it run for a while in the background as your fish get their chores done. This is one of the projects that I think would also do well outside of the game jam environment. Great job.

Ahhchchchghghgh the pain I felt when I accidentally clicked on the 'exit to desktop' button. xD I have never wished a save system for a game so bad. I'm starting over again but I love this.

Neat game! I was very short on the middle resource by the end, would have been nice if something buffed that one quicker =). It was also a little _too_ idle for me, I wish there was a bit more to do, or just less time waiting. I loved the little fix, especially the horn fish made me laugh when he first harvested something =). Watching the fish crowd into the rocket was a fantastic way to finish! Nice job!

Very nice & relaxing game, I love how the horn fish were progressing when I started increasing number of things they can carry. That was super fast from that point :) Audio and visuals are super nice and fits very well into the game. It was fun!

AMAZING ! I really liked it and I gave you a beautiful 4.5 everywhere. Why not 5 ? Just because of a small detail that bother me : the shop window is in the middle of the screen and I can't see my little fishes working (are they working ? are they !?!).

That's it.

Great game again.

Good healing game, I like the art style and it fits the theme very well, clicking on the little fish to see it speed up is very interesting, I can hang out and do something else, maybe come out with an archiving system

I love a good idle game! The music is perfectly chill for a long play session, and the color palette is so cozy and inviting. Super minor nitpick, but I'd like if the fish were just a little bigger. They're so tiny that I didn't feel like making the effort to click on them after the first couple of minutes, so I ended up just letting it run at its own pace. It still works fine without any clicking, but given the slow early game, it would be nice if that option were a bit more compelling.

This was fantastic, and I love the way that it ended! I thought it was a little wild how the first resource became kinda worthless after a while (the fish were making so much of it that there was zero chance of ever using it up), but then was shocked at how quickly the third resource was generated faster than the second after a while lol. A really clever balance of stuff there.

Mostly, though, this was just sooooooo chill, and I loved clicking the fishies to get em to move faster. That kept me engaged and made it even more fun than simply watching it happen! 🧡
