Green Shell by Kekwu

[raw]
made by Kekwu for Ludum Dare 56 (JAM)

A tiny turtle wanting to escape from its aquarium and away from where he lived. the turtle was one of the pets kept by a chemistry professor, noting that the other pet was a cat.

One day, the turtle saw the cat rip a turtle plushy into pieces while thinking that the plushy was his species. this convinced the turtle to believe that the cat was a dangerous animal, which led the turtle to want to escape this hazardous habitat.

Really cute turtle and the environment, however I was very confused by controls. Was I supposed to not be able to turn the camera?

@laurynas Thank you for playing our game, hope your enjoyed it. as a response to your question: Yes, the camera is locked to a certain position. this could help the game to not expose any visual effects that would decrease your game experience.

This turtle has mobility that is completely unexpected for a turtle but I really like it. The art in this 3D game is absolutely stunning! The visuals are incredibly detailed and beautifully designed.
I really love the idea of the turtle spinning and accelerating. The controls of this game are a bit challenging for me, but that doesn’t affect me to play. The game is very complete and even has a unique ending.

Overall amazing game! I think the cut scenes might have broke up the pace a little too much. Great environment and nice comics in the beginning. The cat is super cute as well.

Well done for submitting - there's a lot of love in this game and the cutscenes were a really nice addition to the journey. I found myself a little disoriented at times and wasn't always sure if I was doing the right thing - I think with a little more player feedback (Sound etc.) and clearer objectives this would be a smashing game. I definitely felt like a tiny creature in a big world, nice work.

Hey, I liked the idea, but for some reason the controls felt very sluggish. I would have also liked to see some more checkpoints, it felt frustrating to just drop off a cliff, and have to start the whole thing over again.

I really like the cinematics and the ui, bonus for the tutorial, this is really nice for a first jam, keep it up and focus on the 3C and ux for your next jam

Cute turtle! This game is really telling a story through the cutscenes. The level design is nice as well, it definitely makes you feel like a tiny creature. Sound effects and particles would help give player feedback, since sometimes I wasn't sure if I was doing the right thing. Nice job, and congrats on your first submission!

Incredible storytelling on the cutscenes. The game itself was a neat idea and the look of it was solid, but it was pretty buggy to control. The just-in-time tutorial explanations showed a real attention and were really well done in a user-experience sense, especially for a jam game. The lack of audio was a little disappointing because I would have loved to get a peek into what this world would sound like, but understandable given the time constraints. Great work!

Cute turtles, cinematic cutscenes, and fantastic storyboards! I hope the turtle sprint time can be longer, and the spin acceleration is too cool

Fun little adventure games and the cutscenes are great!
As others already said, the controls can be a bit odd and sometimes I was a little lost, but I saw that you already did quite a bit to explain what to do.
Has potential!

Cool game, concept is very nice! I think the character controller needs a bit of refinement because it feels a bit slow and unresponsive, I get that a turtle is slow but still. Other than that, graphics look good and concept has tons of potential!

The curscenes you got there were very good and it's not something we often see in ludum entry so it's really appreciated.

Regarding the game I got fairly confused by the controls and although I managed to break multiple times out of the aquarium it was a bit tedious each time. The turtle would frequently end up in a static state and I couldn't make it move no matter what I did. Maybe I missed something obvious ?
Some respawn at the beggining of the sequence would have been great as I was quite sad to start all over again when I fell from the bookshelf.

You got a really nice 3D art and the little audio and achievements you implemented were a nice touch !

Good job and congrats on your first ludum entry :sparkles:

The visuals are great and there's a good amount of love given to the turtle's movement. I wish I had more space/stamina to spin around everywhere and that the initial pacing wasn't so broken up with cutscenes. Nonetheless there's a ton of effort that can be felt in the final product and I hope you keep adding to it.

A cool concept, unfortunately the game seemed to bug out quiet often for me. The story telling felt good, i especially liked the achievements. Its unfortunate i couldn't progress much further.

what I like is that you have a lot of features you'd expect from a complete game. tutorial, progress markers, cinematics, a proper menu system. Gameplay wise it still feels rough but that's understandable! great work.

Congrats to the team on completing your first Ludum Dare, hope you had a blast! Taking on a puzzle platformer like this with so many interactions with the world is quite ambitious! Great job on completing it.

I only had one bug, which was the animation for legs getting pulled into the shell being opposite the slam attack. It didn't affect gameplay, just looked a little silly.

wtf, why does the 3d modeling look so simple and yet so fun
