made by ArcadeEleven for Ludum Dare 56 (JAM)

cover-600x530-3.png

A creepy crypt memory game. Discover the crypt, make new friends and have a good lunch with them. Playable on https://arcade-eleven.itch.io/creepy-crypt-critters-jam-version

cover-600x530-4.png

Made solo in JAM (72h max - and actually way way less, after removing time with kids, working day and social life :)) I had a lot of fun doing it, and still have many many ideas to make it a more complete game.

Audio opt-out : SFX and BGM using assets. Graphics not opt-out : Some graphics done with the support of AI tools (+ always manual rework). All code from scratch, nothing reused.

Bug fixed : AI choices were not applied properly / sometimes causing a soft lockup.

Simple, but it works. The music and the style set the mood, it's cool. However, I think that the boss should remember the patterns that we turn over rather than doing random, it would add difficulty and force the player's memory to work.
Nice job 👍

My only regret is letting the other guy score at all. Maybe I over estimated the bug eaters.

Very cool art style, I like games in this genre, and the idea of adding an AI that competes with you adds competitive spirit

It's a nice example of this genre of games. The music sets the mood nicely, and I like having the AI competitor!

nice game! not a fan of genre, but it feels like a good touch on it.
there is a thing i didn't like at all: i was ice frozen in the end, and that, to be honest, is pretty cold!

The opponent was a nice touch, though the core gameplay being just Snap wasn't really my thing. I wasn't really a fan of the graphics personally, but the writing was quite fun!

A simple memory game, but with a nice touch with the PVE and animation and all. Does the opponent plays randomly?

I feel like the game idea is interesting, but it seems too simple. Game feels responsive and sounds are fitting. Nicely done tho!

The color palette here is *chef's kiss*, the clicking sound was very nice as was the music, and character design was really neat. My only complaint is there are two reds in the cards that I kept getting mixed up!

Enjoyed the game! Had a cool concept of a memory game with bugs. The game felt very polished, and I loved the little details, like the mouse hover effect on the cards or animations when pressing them. It made the game look and feel very good overall. Great job!

Great game, beautiful visuals, great music, great mood! I was trying my best not to get eaten because of how creepy the monsters were!

I liked the dialog mix with the matching pairs idea, seemed to work well. The computer opponent seemed to see and remember the cards I turned over on the previous turn quite well, not sure if coincidence or a clever computer opponent. Graphics and style was nice too, good stuff!

@soul-grinder Thanks a lot for the feedback ! Yes, the opponent has a remember feature, that behaves according to player actions as well as his own actions.

非常棒的美术风格,创新型的将ai对战引入翻翻乐,非常有挑战性。不过ai的逻辑有点问题,似乎记不住他看过的牌。The artwork style is absolutely fantastic, innovatively introducing AI battles into the Flip and Match game, making it very challenging. However, there seems to be an issue with the AI's logic; it seems unable to remember the cards it has seen.

It's a great memorization game. I really liked the music and the drawing. way to go! I love this kind of game. I wish there were some different modes though, but for ludum the game is whole and cool!

@obi-w Hello Obi ! Thanks for the feedback. May I ask you a question ?

The AI has a remember feature for card identification, and the AI memory has a drop mechanism that erase some memory according to certain constraints. This has been tested and, normally, is working properly.

There's an AI feature which is not implemented yet, it's remembering which cards were played recently, and not playing them again if there's no existing pair. So, what could happen, is that the AI is playing 'stupidly' a card that was just played (full randomization, without exclusion of recently played cards). Is it the behavior you noticed ?

Thanks in advance !

Pfiou! I was not eaten by the beast. That was close.
I liked the fact that my "host" did some mistakes, even if this is a computer and computer don't do mistakes. The ambiance is very nice. I liked the environment you created around this well-known game.

Pretty fun. Ramped up from trivial to challenging with a good curve. Nothing terribly new here, but the antagonism of the npc and the nice spooky vibes were good.

The enemy AI is the most compelling thing here. Felt like I was playing against someone with a better memory than me

Taking memory as a base for a game is pretty great.

I wish you would've explored some way to shake up the formula and introduce some kind of twist to the gameplay.
The idea to introduce some dialogue definitely has some potential!
Exploring this further with more characters, and 'enemies' talking to you during the game could be really fun.

Solid visuals and audio!

@elzach Hi elZach, thanks for the feedback, I totally agree. Implementing gameplay variations was my intention but I couldn't go that far during the jam. I'm already working on a new version featuring gameplay variations, I'm really impatient to release it ! -before halloween, fingers crossed-

i think you did a great job for the amount of time given at this jam. the atmosphere it sets is great imo, i like the overall easthetic and it's vibes, tho i've never really been a big fan of memory games (goldfish attentionspan, oh well). good job!
