Space Drug Lord by guru-guru

[raw]
made by guru-guru for LD33 (COMPO)
You are in charge of a space drug lab. Spot and get rid of fires and leave on a pod when you get enough cash. But the space station is crappy and fires randomly break out and doors randomly open. Also you need to keep track of the oxygen levels. Too much oxygen and fire spread faster. Too little and you will die. Remember to charge you fire extinguisher when it empties. Also note you lose money when a person dies but you gain money if you collect the remains.

controls:
WASD : to move
E : Interact with stuff
Space : to use extinguisher
V : to change view

Woah. The effects of being burned and low on oxygen are cool, and controlling the fires is actually really hard. But why am I a monster? Is it because I am a space drug lord? :P

Good game, interesting mechanics, but why I am I a monster?

Other than that, a losing screen would be nice

I dug the sprites, and the interpretation of the theme is funny

The gameplay is nice, tough i felt like i was loosing money all the time and nobody was dying, at least not that i could see.

Other than that, it's quite nice, the effects of burning look awesome!

Interesting take on the theme and I like the visuals.

It was a good game, but I feel it could do a better job of teaching the player its mechanics, as those seem to be the most important part of the gameplay.

This game is hard.

The low-oxygen effect is way cool.

It would probably be easier to win if I just let most of the fires burn, though. This means that in this game you play as a drug lord in space who doesn't really care if his employees are in horribley dangerous work conditions. I think it fits the theme.

I... have no words...

It started off as a confusing game about making money... over time? Randomly?... whilst putting out fires. Suddenly I realized I could open doors and the spaceship, which I thought was one room, was in fact huge.

Wandering the vast labyrinth, I noticed that I was losing money rapidly. I had no idea what that meant, or how to remedy it.

Oh my, that's a lot of Fire. I'll just close these doors and pretend I didn't see that. Sorry, guys in that room.

The next thing I noticed was the oxygen was apparently low. I have no idea why, but it sounded bad so I turned some Air on. I'm not sure why that matters, since I'm in a spacesuit.

At this point, I rapidly lost control of the whole fire situation. Running through the ship, watching everyone burn to death I fire-fought myself into a corner and ran out of water.

Why is this spaceship so flammable?!

But then, just past the flames! A door with no fire beyond it. I brave the fire, bolt through and slam it shut. I find myself trapped in a dead-end room with 3 other guys and no hope of escape.

And at this moment... hurrah! My venture finally turns profitable again and I start raking in the cash. I can only conclude that this is because fire is in fact the product we are shipping.

Sadly, as leaving my room would mean instant death, I have no way to spend my riches...

5/5 I have no idea why any of that happened, but it was awesome.

I'm a terribly ineffective space firefighter... But I think this only really connects to the theme because of the drug part?

The levels are too large to be possible to contain fires. It would also help if there was some indication of where the fires were.

I don't understand the connection to the theme, other than that this is an interesting game

I, am not monster? I think that will
better with a flamethrower, fireball monster,
and the humans keep...

I get it, you are the mobster. Why can't I hold all these fires.

I really like the idea of the game. Have not really understood the economy thats going on behind extinugishing fires, and would be interested in some guidance where fires are burning, like an arrow pointing that way.

Not really monstrous, but fun enough. Need some fire radar though, can't find it for 2 minutes.

Everybody floats around on their backs. :-) Original stuff though. A little doubtful about the theme.

Lots of fun with great visuals, especially the burning effect. I liked the strategy involved in sealing off compartments to slow the spread of fires.

Challenging game and interesting mechanics. Just opened a door of a room with fire while oxygen was high and blew the whole ship :D
Would have loved fire indicators though
