Kanker Killer by Pirate-Rob

[raw]
made by Pirate-Rob for Ludum Dare 56 (COMPO)

LD56Screenshot1.png LD56Screenshot2.png LD56Screenshot3.png LD56Screenshot4.png In which you will save or sacrifice your friends for more power.

  • Fight enemies and steal their weapons, or get some from crates.
  • Find the key to open the warp portal and leave!
  • Free critters from cages and leave with them to take them to safety.
  • Rescued critters can be cured to cut out organs they don't need.
  • Critters can also be harvested to gain even more organs :(
  • Modify your body to make use of these new organs!

I wanted to do so much more but I wasted a bunch of time on useless stuff like water...

I really wanted to make an organ-modifying game this jam, and a cutesy theme was not going to stop me >:)

Man I dig the atmosphere and graphics! Really great. It is kinda hard at the beginning to get the idea of the organ part. Overall intersting concept, would like to see more!

I think you should polish it and release it on some store. Very cool!

Dude, this is truly a masterpiece! The music is atmospheric, the graphics are cool, the sounds are appropriate! I liked everything! At first you get used to the controls and how the game works, but then everything becomes easier! I'd love to see this in the game store too!

I like the graphics and the music, it was fun running around and shooting, but I didn't really know what to do about the left organ panel, it seemed very interesting but it was hard to understand what was going on.

I like the art and feel of movement & shooting.I don't understand the left organ panel so that could use some explaining / onboarding. and after a certain time all movement of the player stops (because of the organ mechanic?) which makes it unplayable.

The idea with organ-modifying is amazing, it definitely worth trying to release this as a full-scale project with proper player onboarding, save/load and stuff. It is very impressive how you've managed to put together so much content in just 48 hours, it's basically two whole games. Great job, hope you'll make this mechanic into a full game!

This is a really cool and ambitious concept. The left panel intrigued me more than the actual gameplay (it's a totally fine twin stick shooter though). Would definitely be cool to see the system used in something bigger and with some more explanation (I wish I had a better grasp of human anatomy ).

Cool game, maybe a bit too complex for a game jam! I mean it seems that it's doable for you, but a this complex system most of us would require a detailed tutorial too, which is not in the scope of a compo I guess :D But after a few death I started to get a feel of the body system and it was really interesting. The art is also really polished, one thing I didn't like is the damage effect: it felt wrong that there were also blue circles coming out of me ^^ Anyway, nice entry, good job! :)

Great graphics and mood straight from the 90's Amiga games. Also, interesting mechanics!

I got somewhat the hang of it and through the third level, but killed myself accidentally before starting fourth level while fiddling with body power generation.

I think there should have been more instructions for doing the whole body manipulation, it took lots of time to find out how it works. Also I think you shouldn't be able to die between levels, maybe it just would warn you "you will die immediately on the start of level if you don't rearrange the organs" or something.

I liked the idea of the organic puzzle (hehe) very much and this could easily be a base for a bigger game. I really appreciated all the details: spilled blood cells, muffling music when damaged, creatures acting lively, different enemy types, being able to change organs on the run etc.

The shooting action itself reminded me of Tapan Kaikki -games from back years... In good and bad. The gunplay had kinda good flow, but what could be improved would be ways to better dodge the enemies and most importantly telegraphing to a moment player before attacking. Maybe the enemy should stand still and aim. Something for player to react to.

In the end this game is massive for compo and I'm dazzled you could do this much content in that little time :open_mouth: ...It could have been perfect if the time had been distributed a bit more to the quality of life/tutorial and bit less to complicatedness.

Still, a good job!
