Mini Monster Market by mira

made by mira for Ludum Dare 56 (JAM)

SUMMARY

You are an employee in a magical pet store and you have the task of storing tiny magical creatures from crates (on the purple carpet) to chests (on the green carpet). There are impatient customers who want their little creature and if they don't get it fast enough they will leave and complain to the management. The shift lasts 2 minutes and try to collect as many points as possible in that time. You can then share the score here in the comments with others. The higher the score, the more your employers will be with you in M.M.M. satisfied.

You can read additional information about the creatures in the manual for employees from M.M.M. under the Creatures button.

HOW TO PLAY

  • use the arrows or WASD to move
  • use 'SPACE' for action

ABOUT MINI MONSTER MARKET

"Here at M.M.M. you will find creatures that will make you laugh, warm, and maybe a little charming. They're the cutest tiny creatures and might even turn you into a frog - but what's a little magic against a true love of animals?"

“Any injuries caused by magic, fire, transformation into other creatures, eating or biting are purely your concern. Our legal department disassociates itself from any possible consequences, and complaints are with love M.M.M. rejected."

This is so heartwarming. You managed to make a peaceful yet challenging game.

I would love to spend more time in this game (make a full version, please—hint, hint).

The only thing I’d point out is that the main menu font, especially with the lore, is a bit hard to read for me.

Good job, gang!

Amazing game! I got 391.

The mechanics were simple but the game was intense and fast paced. I really enjoyed the mood of this game. I think you all should keep working on this one!

Nice tiny game. It would be great, if it had several shifts instead of one.

very fun and simple game, definitely helps you sharp your mind a lot. Creature designs are very cool and unique, combined with different sounds they make whenever you pick one up it it creates very memorable atmosphere. I enjoyed playing your game a lot.

Very fun and polished feeling memory / managing game!
With all those creatures and assets I see why you guys have 5 pixelartists ;)

Really nothing to complain and no bugs encountered. This does feel like an actual game demo!

Fun game. Finding back the right animals was fun. The graphics are amazing! Good job!

EDIT: Actually it's so easy to cheat by taking them one at a time and waiting for a client to come.

Loved seeing the little monsters and trying to find them, it's a good amount of challenge.

One of these games where children excel on the memory part. It was fun. Hard to remember more than the first row of chests. 1186 on a second attempt with only 4 chests in use.

Cute game, but not very challenging. great for kids.
Beautiful pixel art and peaceful music for the task.

I didn't find any bugs, and that's a good thing in gamejam games. A small scope helps keep the game polished.

Congratulations!

Sweet pick n match game. I don't see incentive for storing in far chests. That being said, the idea is good and I could get it right away despite being late. I ought to memorize better to get better score.

I liked this game. Really nice twist of a matching memory game that surprised me in a good way. I loved the art and the music & sfx blended well to create a nice atmosphere. Also liked the small details like adding info on the various creatures. I'd love if the level was a bit more challenging because the clients wanted the creatures in the same order as spawned in the box. Maybe have one per four customers pick a random choice from what's already stored could be a way to add some spice. Awesome stuff!

Great game!! Loved the concept. You guys created a LOT of creatures for a jam too. :eyes:  The music and art came together for a fun vibe. (Because of the intensity, I wouldn't have minded the move speed just a touch faster...so I could store more in boxes). But I loved running my little creature shop!

I really liked the idea of a memory game where you can sort by yourself what you have to memorize. I wish it would be more progressive though, with less different monsters at the beginning and slowly introducing new ones. The graphics and music worked well and it created a nice experience! Good job!

I don't know if it's broken just for me, but the order of the creatures appearing in the crates matches the customers' requests. This leaves very little reason to use the chests — maybe just the 2 to 4 closest ones to save a few seconds. Otherwise, it’s a solid entry: good graphics and sound. With a few tweaks, the gameplay could be improved as well.
