Made for LD56 in 48 hours

RULES:

Goal is to gain the most of meat at your base (on the left) (75% of the total pool, also calculated in the top right).

To do so you have an isopod pair of cards on the left, those cost nothing, and a more conventional hand of cards on the right. Cards on the right cost meat. You get to cast 1 card per turn, to lower the cost you can discard the isopod card.

Cast cards, steal from opponent or scavenge of the whalefall to allow your isopod colony to prosper.

Version on the LD site is broke but was able to load it on itch.io.
Theme seemed pretty interesting, I liked the art. But couldn't really figure out what was going on. A basic tutorial just to give me an idea of what I was looking at would have been great.

pretty art but I wasn't really sure what was going on. I'm sure there's a really cool game in here but I don't understand what's happening

Interesting concept, but needs help with learning. The game hooked me from the first minutes thanks to beautiful art and unusual theme. Strategic mechanics with cards look promising, but without attention it is difficult to understand how to play correctly. Overall, there is a lot of potential, and with a couple of improvements the game will be great! 🌟

I never figured out what any of the cards did, and the only game I won was when I just used the left-most card every turn. The most mysterious thing, I think, is probably what happens between turns (like how meat gets increased on any of the objects, or what "opponent" "attack" "guard" and "buff" mean, or what the in-game-total is).

Otherwise it's neat getting a random selection of cards and having to figure out the best path forward, and the art style is awesome.

While the art is very lovely, and there's probably some nice card mechanics in here, I found this very hard to get to grips with. I had no earthly idea how many actions I had per turn, what the "cost" meant. I do love the concept, and reading the description more closely, I see what you were going for, but gameplay-wise it's quite difficult to get to grips with it. Love me some isopods :)

Art is nice and I like the idea of scavanging the meat from the whale carcass with your isopods.
Cards where a bit confusing, for e.g. I used a "steal 4 from opponents base" and it seemse it got added 4 meat on the right base, not on mine.
I think the concept is nice overall, with more content and a longer game session.

@sdcorpse if game fails to launch on LD, try the Itch link, it's html5 too.

Game looks really good. Love the art style. The cards didn't have the affect I expect or I didn't understand what they should be doing. Knowing what actions your opponent played might have helped.

Wonderful mood, feels like a little world on its own. Great art style. I liked the concept of the cards and the little world above interacting. Would love to see a next iteration with a proper tutorial and more clear indications during the game what is happening. Bookmarked for revisiting.
