the Last Leukocyte by bad_fetus

The heart is under attack! The immune system has been defeated! You're the last leukocyte!
Post your best scores, I will try to play the games of top scorers!
WASD or arrow keys to move.
Recommended to play in full screen.
Cells and viruses were the tiniest creatures I could come up with. Heart not to scale :)
Make sure to maintain a high combo by not letting anything touch the heart if you want a high score. Do not let the coronavirus multiply. Good luck!

To me I initially thought I have to "swallow up" the black enemies by going near them, and it seemed to work because I didn't even see the bullets fly. Maybe some impact of the bullet (sound, little knockback on the enemy before they die, some impact graphics) would've made that more obvious. But overall great how much you achieved in just 48 hours!
I like that there is a leaderboard. I am interested in how you set it up, I'll go look at the github page.
But the system is cool, I have always wanted to have a leaderboard, and that's now a goal for my next LD. Thank you (also I have unabused of the system)
The attack projectiles could use a tiny bit of juice.
It would be nice to be able to select upgrades with the arrow keys or just the keyboard in general.
Would be fun to have an option to clear all currently spawned enemies with a blast instead of upgrading (or have this as a regular option that comes up sometimes), this could feel like a satisfying way to get out of losing sitations.
I like seemingly simple mechanics that have a big impact on the game, such as the heart blocking both your bullets and your movement.
Choosing one of three upgrades is a common trope but works very well in games like this. Even if they are not all equally useful (they don't have to be), you can always feel the difference, which is very nice.
As for suggestions, I'd like the gray enemy spawn circles to be more noticeable. Blue enemies hitting you was sometimes disorienting; a smoother push rather than teleporting the player might feel better. These aren't huge issues, though.
Interesting enemy concepts too. I'm curious to see what else you'd come up with if you had more time.
I love a good challenge, couldn't resist trying to take the first place in this one. Had a lot of fun doing so.
Great job!

Thanks for the feedback - slowly working on a post-jam version (small in scope, QoL improvements etc.) - should be able to incorporate those.

Also Wanted to ask if youre fine with me using gameplay from the game in this LDs [score chasers tournament](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/56/$405421/ludum-dare-score-chasers-qualification-begins) intermission video. (Would play in the breaks of the tournament on my stream). Last year for reference
