The Congress of Monsterdom by Artylo

[raw]
made by Artylo for LD33 (COMPO)
"What is a monster, if not part of the Great Congress of Monsterdom!"
- Valgaar, the Bloodlustful

That quote is there for a reason. The Congress of Monsterdom is the most prestigious group of monsters in the unknown universe.
You on the other hand are not prestigious at all! I even heard a lady call you cute and huggable! Not cool...
Ahem! You have been sent to the planet Earth, in order to prove your monsterdom to all congressmen!
To do that you must climb the ranks by slaying as much humans and military forces as you can possibly slay. DO YOU EVEN SLAY HUMANS, MON!?
Go out there an prove to everyone that you are worthy of The Congress!

Controls: (features in game tutorial)
Mouse = Lasers of pain and death

==========================================================

The Congress of Monsterdom is a game, in which you play as a monster, exiled from The Great Congress, sent to Earth to prove its worth.
Equipped with your trusty laser aye, you zap the people of Earth in order to regain health and increase your rank...
...but the Earth has noticed your presence and is not happy with all that zapping that is happening. They have sent their defences to stop you at any cost!... but of course you can zap them too...
The Congress of Monsterdom features 30 ranks, with ever increasing difficulty!
The Earth's forces will send more powerful and just more of everything they've got, so prepare your monster butt, because you'll have to fight your way to the top of The Congress' rankings and claim the title of SUPREME CONGRESSMAN OF THE CONGRESS OF MONSTERDOM (achieved at rank 30)... or just be a regular monster (achieved at rank 15)...

Sorry for no MacOSX or Linux versions. I didn't have time to make a good web version, and I'd prefer to not have one instead of uploading a half-finished build.
Sorry for that inconvenience.

Feedback is almost completely necessary!
Thanks for playing!

==========================================================

The first 5 people to send me a screenshot of claiming the title of SUPREME CONGRESSMAN OF THE CONGRESS OF MONSTERDOM (achieved at rank 30) get a special gift from me <3.
Send them at : matglishev[at]gmail[dot]com
Good luck!

Good action when the missiles get going! Too easy though? I got bored of not dying so stopped playing. Cool music and art. Nice job! :)

Great art, loved the animations! I also think that the game is too easy, you could reduce the monster life or increase de damage from the missiles. Nice work anyway!

very nice. I like how you keep flopping between the sky missiles and the ground missiles.

I really enjoyed this game, I found the style of gameplay a lot different to other entries and found this upped your game in terms of quality in my book, It was really enjoyable for a while but it was too easy for the first few levels as I could just keep killing humans and not worry about the missiles as my I'd get my health up, after a while it became a lot more difficult and you had to worry about the missiles but in the later stages the fun was kind of ruined as everything was the same and repetitive (Kill humans, destroy missiles, kill humans destroy missiles over and over again) but it wasn't too bad. I thought this was a really cool take on the theme and a funny one at that. I LOVED the cute art style and the game was really quite funny, I really liked the audio and it really helped the slightly serious but quite funny and playful mood that this game had, really good game, well done.

Although the game is really easy, it's very fun to play. Graphics, sound and music are superb and overall this is a great fun game. Would love to play it on my phone.

I wish there was some sort of upgrades and/or rewards system to give the player more reasons to continue playing.

196425, I am a monster! Nice game, got a bit repetitive after level 10 though. Luckily, the planet was very crowded with people, so I never had problems with health. The music could have been a bit louder, compared to the sound effects. Really cool graphics!

Loved it!! It was so satisfying to kill! Loved the psychedelic graphics! I also liked how you introduced us to the controls killing people who couldn't shoot back.

Phenomenal game, I see comments about it being too easy? I played the patch and man it's definitely not too easy. If I had any criticism it would be that the UI rotating makes it tough to just glance over and check health quickly, so maybe it should be fixed in place. But seriously, loved the graphics, loved the sound, loved the gameplay. Feels correctly balanced, now at least!

Lots of fun. it brought out my evil laugh! good graphics and sound. i like the grainy old time tv feel of it. a little on the easy side. im sure it gets harder in the later levels though

Great Game, with a little more polish this would be a great mobile title. It needs some more difficulty progression. More variety of enemies and a higher difficulty later on would be great. I really enjoyed it.

I've only got one major complaint: the mouse cursor more or less disappears into the trippy graphics, meaning precise aiming is more difficult than it should. I suggest you add a custom cursor/crosshair to the game itself.

Other than that I like the premise, audio-visuals and even the gameplay, repetitiveness notwithstanding.

This is very cool. I just have a couple of suggestions:
1) make it more responsible by making the laser move and shoot faster, so that I wouldn't have to wait until it animates through it's frames and stuff, and then...
2) give me the reason _not_ to shoot; as JW Nijman said, "if you give a player a button, you also have to give them the reason not to press it, otherwise just make it autofire" (quotation imprecise); suppose, you could make more and less intense waves, and when I see that this very wave is small, I could choose not to shoot to recover more HP than I will lose in this wave - smth like that.

The game was fun to play, and I enjoyed the idea. But I've got a strange bug: when the missile start to fly, the monster and people disappear. I can still shoot lasers, but don't see monster and laser beams. Tried several times and got the same bug. (Windows 8.1, Standalone version of the game.)

I love your soundtrack! The graphics fit the theme well. The gameplay is fun and crazy, but eventually gets repetitive. Never really made it to the congress though.

I like the style of the graphics, and exploding the missiles makes the most satisfying sound!

The game gets really hard for me by level 10 or 11. Is it even possible to get to level 30 (or 15, even) in the post-patch version, or do I just suck? :P

Overall, the game is pretty fun. Humorous little titles too! I enjoyed it. Well done!
