Stick Racing by Prunus Padis
Race you with car in the paper world of small stick figures!
I was interested in trying out how would game making work if you did all the drawings on paper and here it is!
Help: Use the car for easier driving, the physics are little weird.
All content in game done by me and my great artistic skills.
Used tools: * Unity Engine * Gimp * Muse score (sound track) * LMMS * Audacity * Paper, pen, scissors and scanner

There is web build available in itch also downloadable standalone build in here.
Feel free to post your times and car with you did it!

I only drove with the normal car. The track felt perhaps too tight, even for the normie. I shrug at the thought of trying the speed one..
The legibility of text has taken a hit from this approach. Now the thin line blurs into rest of the screen. Perhaps thicker marker or double lines could have helped.
Nice entry!
Meanwhile gameplay has problems. Like, I dont want to try other cars, because there is only on map with 5 same laps. The sharp turns don't allow you to get going, which makes the game unfairly drawn out. 2-3 laps would be enough.
Turbo car is kinda too turbo for this map.
Music is so charming.
One of the games, you know. ;)

Boy the handling is very harsh, even the first car which is supposed to have good handling will barely let you make corners without coming to a full stop.
As CodeRaus said, the text legibility is a little bad, their markers suggestion is a good one.
Also, I wouldn't say this game fits the theme that much. I can sort of imagine that the tracks and cars are small and the driver is therefore a small creature, but that's about it.
The sounds effects and music are nice and simple, they're a good vibe.
For a solo dev, great job! Despite the gameplay suffering a little, the overall game is pretty cool.
It wasn't lying when saying it has no handling stat. :D
I guess it needs a controller so you can have a press sensitivity instead of just having 100% speed all the time?
The graphics are cool, the sound design also complements it. I imagined someone making the engine's sound with their mouth, lol. :D
I couldn't go back to the menu after the race, or maybe I was missing some keys (I tried enter, escape, random buttons and clicks). The normal car is my favorite so far, at least on a keyboard. :D
The physics feel good for a jam game, I'm not sure why do you call them weird. :D
The only weird part about them is when you hit the wall hard, but that's because the wall is 100% solid, it would fell weird either way. If the walls would deform/destroy, then even with the current physics I think it would be better, but making breakable walls is an unpopular choice in racing games. :)
Have you done these graphics on an actual paper? If yes, maybe you could add these photos of the work-in-progress to the game description?
One thing worth mentioning is that some letters have very little contrast, and I took a while to understand or even read the part that says I broke the car.

Perhaps using papers of different colors and/or writing the text with a marker or a thicker pen might do the trick.
The paper crumpled as we hit the car. Simply brilliant, by the way. 😊
A really liked handwritten the digits :)
I think the gameplay needed a little more work, and maybe the assets could've used a bit of a border to differentiate them from each other. But still, good job!
I tried paper for a jam once but had to take pictures of it 'cause I had no scanner. The result was greyish and meh, but here it looks real good and goes well with the sound FX (loved the engine <3) and the music. The paper being smashed for the damages is a nice touch.
Though, as a Crash Team Racing guy I kept looking for drift and boosts... or at least a way to take sharper turns. It's quite hard even with the basic car. So I cheated and ran back and forth on the line :grimacing:

Pretty cool compo game overall :)

But no stick figure was harmed ^^
A great entry! Good job!
2 minutes flat, 28s best lap.
The handling could do with a bit of work, as it felt like the only option for some of the corners was to come to a near dead stop. Other than that it was fun to play, a great entry!
The idea to scramble the paper when your car gets bumped too much is great.
Indeed, the physics are not very convenient. Maybe the car should not be "reoriented" that much when hitting a wall. Many times, I was exactly perpendicular to the road, and it's hard to make a quarter of a turn, because each time you bump, you come back to the perpendicularity.
Thank you for this original idea. 5 stars on graphics, just because.
I think the car physics and therefore the gameplay were not polished enough. It was really hard driving the cars around the corners. More space on the track would be helpful, but then still the driving physics need some adjustments.
The engine sound was really cool and concerning the theme, I also had in my mind, that if there was a "childrens play room" in the background the theme would actually fit very well, because a child plays with his little paper cars.
Seeing the damage on your car through the paper crumble is such a great idea, really love it! The UI on the other hand was hard too read (laps, time). Using bigger letters, for example by using a marker, would help to improve it. But despite that, I'm a big fan of the graphics. Congrats for finishing this game in just two days! :)
