Cutesy destroyer of worlds by Graham Weldon

[raw]
made by Graham Weldon for LD33 (COMPO)
This lovable monster is out to destroy the world. The humans will fight back. He's heavy, so the landscape rumbles and shakes when he moves.

Control your monster with the following:

- A, D = Left and Right
- Space = Jump

Jump on buildings to destroy them
Jump on humans to kill them
Killing humans will regenerate your health
Killing buildings will destroy the human spawners, there is one in each building!

What score can you get? Please post your high scores screenshots in comments!

Can you get to the end?

I really enjoyed it. Its very reminiscent of Rampage.

So. Many. People. With. Guns.

But in all honestly, that was quite fun! I like how the guns had a knockback effect, it added an extra challenge. Also, the leaderboard is a nice touch that you don't see in many LD games!

The physics is interesting... I get launched into the air via the bullets... why do they all have guns? :D It's like it has happened before!

Haha I love the "juicer" effect when I squash all those poor people :D Wish it had audio, but I enjoyed it!

Was there supposed to be sound? I couldn't hear any. I like the graphics, but the gameplay gets a bit repetitive... and it seems sort of unfair when the humans shooting you keep you up in the air so you can't even squish them.

I got 3665 score.
Some sounds would really liven up the game.
Physics are a little quirky but not too bad.
Also maybe increasing the amount of health you have but reducing the healing you get from kills a lot might be good since either I am at full healh or half dead most of the time.

Everyone wants sounds! I did attempt this, but it was tricky to get it right with overlapping channels and problems with the amount of audio sources in the level.

Some sounds would make this better, absolutely.

@TerinHD - I think this has happened before, they're certainly prepared with all that firepower!

@OccamsRazor - I'm glad you like the highscores board. That was a last-hour addon :)

Managed 970 before the shooting got ridiculous :P Nifty idea, simple controls & gameplay and some nice effects too. Platforming a bit sticky sometimes, but aside from that pretty cool!

I was looking forward to playing this, after reading your progress reports on the site :-) And it didn't disappoint! I especially like the "ground shaking" effect efter each landing.

"Monster smash puny humans!" (or maybe "Monster jettisoned into orbit by sustained fire by rifle toting humans!" ;-) )

Stomping on masses of people for some reason is a lot of fun :D

Die pesky humans, die! It was really fun. I especially like the graphics. I wish i could kill humans by ramming them, after all i can destroy buildings, they should not able to stop me:P Best score 2090.

Cool game, but I think I had a bug as the game seemed to be too fast (monster reactions). Like halemaster said, I reminds me also of rampage, which was a C64 game I think?

I like it when so many people attack you. But the jumping feels a little bit off. maybe it would have been good to have a high and a not so high jump. But overall a lot of fun!

Awesome and fun!

The gameplay is simple and intuitive, killing people to get your health back is completely congruent to the premise and using platforms as cover is somewhat innovative, I found really interesting how the bullet impact kind of fucked up the physics, 2 times that I died it was because I didn't get to a platform in time and the citizens blasted me to the sky (shooting from below and the bullet impact wouldn't let me fall on them), an interesting twist but it gets quite unbalanced in later stages, mainly because of the lack of platforms and the exponentially growing number of citizens.

Also, I loved the implementation of the high score system, not entirely necessary since this is a compo, but the way you managed to make a solid game and this is a big plus, same thing for the game over menu and start menu.

The graphics are good, not anything amazing, but it really fits the game and adds greatly to the experience. Fun fact: we used the same font.

On the bad side, this game really would improve with some sounds, and using sfxr is not that time taking so you don't have an excuse, music, on other hand, is completely forgivable since your clearly invested in other qualities.

By the way, why pressing P turns me red?

I found it a little easier when I discovered that jumping into the side of a building also decreases its HP...

The number of humans gets too high too quick, the pacing goes from almost none to covering the screen in 2 buildings...

Nice little game...

This was a really good idea. I like the blood. As others have said, add some sound. Good job.

Cool game, very juicy although the camera and screen shake are overdone. The graphics are great too.

Must be set in America. Why else would everyone own some weapon that good take a decent chunk out of this behemoth's health. Good game!

Well it was nice, the graphics were nice, the idea is simple enough. Its a pitty there is no sound because the atmsophere is cool, but maybe you will add it why not :)
good job :)
