Ant Colony Tycoon Deluxe by IAmWave

You control an ant colony. The goal is for it to survive as long as possible. Control ants by placing pheromone trails on the ground by holding the left mouse button. Bringing mushrooms and leaves back to the anthill will produce more ants, while bringing sticks gives you points. Ants have a limited lifespan and you lose when you run out of ants. The game gets more difficult as the camera zooms out and food becomes more scarce.
Ants generally follow pheromone trails when they're near them, but they also have a mind of their own.
The circle around the cursor shows how much more pheromone you have available – it regenerates with time.
For an explanation of how the ant movement algorithm works, see here.

Post-jam bugfix: Fixed a bug where rocks were only spawning in the upper left corner when playing on itch.io (it was related to the viewport size).

I've been checking on my colony between work tasks and laying down new paths to mushrooms. It's oddly relaxing and satisfying!
I really appreciate you making the source code available. I'm just starting to learn about shaders, so it'll be really helpful to see how you've implemented them. Your game is actually inspiring me - my team had a similar idea for a prototype but we weren't sure we had the Godot skills to pull it off. Seeing your game makes me want to give it a shot!
Great job on this game. It's clear you put a lot of thought and effort into it. Keep up the awesome work!
Thanks for the submission!
I enjoyed the heatmap concept too
Kudos for the explanation on the ant movement, it sure can be helpful!
Nice work.
The ants seemed to struggle to bring food back to the nest as you can't really indicate any kind of direction with the pheromone. I also had to paint extremely slowly or it would not show up at all. This got worse as the frame rate dropped as the game zoomed out. A downloadable version would have been nice for better performance.
It felt like everyone seemed to suddenly die at around 140-160 score even though there was still tons of food right next to the nest. 177 was my best run but they all ended rather abruptly around the same score.
