Bean There, Done That by PhilStrahl

Description
Bean There, Done That is a humorous little text adventure about a mishap in the tavern, jelly beans, and magic. I am not going to tell you any more as not to spoil it. There is music and sound but no graphics so to speak of. I still hope you get to enjoy this little fantasy romp.
Sadly, the embedded version doesn't seem to work, so please use the HTML5 link at the bottom of the page.

Some graphics may have punched up the effect of each room, but honestly the game is fine without them.
Out of all my achievements, I liked petting the jelly beans the most. I did a quick second playthrough to see what happens if you click them an absurd amount of times:
> You petted the beans 2436 times. They love you! 🥰
Great job!
@dhim Glad you like it! I tried to keep the text terse and interesting. Let me know how you liked it!
@tolmera Haha yes, it's my biggest text adventure so far. 😅 _[Power, MT](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/power-mt)_ had ~5800 words, _Bean There_ clocks in at a little over 6000. Hope you had a bit of fun with it 😊
@andrewkennedy Thank you for playing it very thoroughly! I intended drawing little illustrations for some key scenes and rooms but that was 40 minutes before submission hour and I realized how foolish that was 😅 You’re now immortalized as the Number One Bean Petter Of All Time with that ludicrous high amount! 🤣 I am not going to spoil the threshold of when the beans "love you" but it’s magnitudes below 2436. Nonetheless I greatly appreciate the effort! ♥
It was a super nice experience, I like that there is no graphism, so everything lives in my mind.
thank you for making this game
It looks like I've read all the book titles, but I'm terrible at petting

The music and sounds are very nice. Really enhance each scene and add a lot to the mood. And the interpretation of the theme is so cool. Thank you for this experience
@civmaniac Now I got to make an expanded version involving an orb and exotic drawings 😅 And no hard feelings about petting, I meant to have different responses from the beans but, well, time…
@fabula-rasa Thank you for playing and apologizing for everything. I think there's a bug in the 1.0.1 version still (apart from the debugging pony) that you can over-apologize 😅 I am very happy that you had a good time with it!
@tudvari I'm sure you would've found the way forward... after 20 minutes of trying everything and starting to hate the game so I am glad I was there with a clue or two haha. I also wanted to have more puzzles in there but I struggled to finish the ones that I got, you know how it is 😅
@bangkerpow Thank you for playing! The sound effects where done on the hoof, recorded edited and implemented 15 mins before the deadline, so I am relieved you found them acceptable 😅
I played it twice because I somehow forgot about the recipe during my first playthrough and I really wanted to read the whole thing haha

This immediately makes it a 10/10 experience for me. If there's something to pet I'm happy.
Also this

made me feel so called out for the way I play games haha. But what if I neeeeeed it? ~~and I did! See?!~~
Nice story and the music and sounds really enhance the whole experience!
Great work!
@sockenpuppe Thank you so much for playing and petting the little beans! I wanted to have them give different responses so that petting them more often would be a bit more rewarding 😅 The stand-in line about "pocketing the dust for some reason" survived until the final too it seems. I'm glad you enjoyed my little game! Thank you for commenting! 😊
@kr4ft3r Haha, yes, I'm the same person who made _[Aufgeblähte Drossel](https://pixelprophecy.itch.io/drossel)_ earlier this year, thank you for remembering and thank you for playing and commenting! 🥰
@jiri-hysek Oh dear, I _really_ should have added more lines about petting the beans more often 😅 I wanted to add illustrations to the game, especially the beans and some locations but it was 40 minutes to deadline when I finally had time for that. I'm happy that you still played the game despite it being all text! 😊👍
Loved the book names with all your LDJam game references (amongst others).
The writing is great, keep it up
@tetrergeru Thank you so much! I'm glad you had a great time with the game. I am currently working on an expanded version with more puzzles, more beans, and more jokes (some even halfway funny!) 😅
I had fun with this game! I liked the writing it was funny. I like text-adventure games on a black background. I also liked how the music and sound effects added to my imagination. I feel like there was some potential for some small visuals? Maybe a little minimap showing the player where they were on the tower would? Or art for the different rooms? The end screen with stats was a nice touch!
As a matter of fact we joined LDJam due to you and Quill18 showcasing ldjam (first being LDJam48).

@jk5000 Hey thank you for playing and the comment! 😊 Where did you stop and why? It would help a lot knowing where you bounced off.
I always end up getting lost in these text adventures..
Had a great time with this one! Enjoyed all of the writing and humour, and the puzzles were well designed - great work!
Nice little puzzler. I felt trapped in a tower and wanted to get free. I see you succeeded in having visual icons for your selections and thought that was really nice. Appreciated the sound effects for the various items in the scenes and the golden text that would appear and fill me with success happiness feelings.
@eugene-b Thanks so much! I almost didn’t finish on time 😅
I definitely had vibes of playing D&D with a DM here!
The music and sound design are very impressive!
@frank-gevaerts Thanks for playing, Frank! I’m glad you didn’t dislike my little excursion to your preferred genre. Sound “design” might be a bit euphemistic, I threw it together in the last half hour incl. implementation 😅
@lereveur Thank you so much for your kind words and for playing it all through to the end! 🥰 I am currently working on an improved and expanded version that hopefully addresses some shortcomings. 😅
