Mortimer Mouse and the Search for the Sacred Swiss

A Ludum Dare 56 game by MiniBobbo

Gameplay.gif

Notes: All sounds and music were created by me with the exception of the overworld theme. That was created by Bart (https://opengameart.org/content/the-adventure-begins-8-bit-remix)

  • The original upload was all screwed up and was missing all the sound due to a combination of me uploading in a hurry, merge conflicts between two different development machines, and a bug that broke music. I added it back in figuring it fell under the "Bug Fixes allowed" Ludum Dare rules, plus I opted out of audio anyway. To get the authentic, as broken upload experience, just turn the sound and music off from the main menu.

That's quite a lot of content for a solo jam game, well done! The controls and gameplay feels as expected for this kind of arpg. I didn't explore the right side of the map, but I made it to the Sacred Swiss :)
I found the boss's animations especially cute.

I had no sound at all ingame. I thought there was none, but I see an sfx folder in your source code link, so I don't really know what happened. Other games I've played on itch today did have sound, so it's not a general issue on my end.

I loved the idea of Zelda with mice! I think a little music could improve it, but overall it was really cool. Great job!

@inonesgraveded Wouldn't you lock a stick that awesome in a chest? :)

@chocolat-endive @superzoom :O I uploaded in a hurry Monday evening and then left for a work trip for a few days, and when I came back found your comments and discovered that I uploaded an earlier build that didn't have the music or sounds implemented. I've fixed that bug now. Thanks for the comments!

Very nice game, I love the art and the movement and everything, worst thing was easily the overworld theme grating my ears until I got into the dungeon! I thought there was gonna be more areas (I similarly also went to the left) and I thought the piece that I found was gonna be 1/3 of it and there were still two more areas, but that was the whole cheese-force! Overall, very good though, you should be proud.

I was able to find the Sacred Swiss! That was a lot easier than I expected, although it was hard to find the key to unlock the chest at first (the character didn't clearly walk over those water tiles when I first got there, but was able to access it after checking it again). The mouse sprite is really, really adorable and I loved the cheese pun.
