Hey everyone,

This is our tenth entry for Ludum Dare. For 56's "Tiny Creatures" we proudly present our game "The Pasture". We hope you thoroughly enjoy it.

You slip into the role of a simple villager who funnels his hate for the neighboring farmer into the well being of the local rabbit population. To accomplish this arrange the preferred food of each bunny in a straight line ahead of it.

Screenshot.png

This fluffy madness should doom your vile neighbor and keep many of the local bunnies plumply happy.

How to play

Sadly we did not have enough time to implement the tutorial.

  • the rabbits approach the field looking for some produce
  • each rabbit is looking for a specific kind of vegetable, build a full row of the vegetable infront of the bunny.
  • you can move horizontal and vertical rows in the field either with a swipe of your finger or with a drag and drop of your cursor
  • Congratulations, now your are ready for the pasturing. Feed as many rabbits as you can, to reach even higher scores.

Best regards @nivbeth, @fis & @johncoffee

A fun little puzzle game however I keep running into a situation where there's only one available vegetable on the board yet everyone wants that vegetable. Maybe consider adding a way to refresh a row of vegetables, or just make sure that there is always at least 3 of each in play? Very cute art though! Loved the concept and I think with a bit more refinement you'll have a very fun and addictive mobile game.

Simple yet fun matching game. I only tried the 3x3. It took me a while to notice the small happiness bar. Great graphics and polish.

Nice game! I like how polished it is. the bunnies look really cute and the music creates a nice atmosphere :) Maybe you could include an overall time limit or some other form of increasing difficulty. Perhaps the bunnies could become more and more impatient. All in all great game :)

Nice game, despite being simple it's quite engaging. Matching lines is satisfying. For some reason highscore is grayed out in the menu for me though, I player the first level for 1000 points and last level for several hundreds, as far as I understand they are endless, or maybe I didn't finish them and that's why I didn't unlock highscore..

This is extremely fun, easily one of the top 10 candidates this jam

P.S. btw, our artist is curious what tools you used to animate your tiny creatures

This is gorgeous. Kept getting rabbits wanting veggies that I didn't have available, so a way to deal with/prevent that would be great, but otherwise this'd make a great little phone game!

thank you so much for your feedback! we really appreciate it!

@kiberptah you did nothing wrong regarding the highscores, we sadly had some bugs we couldn't figure out in time so we disabled these buttons for now - once we fixed it with some other gamebreaking bugs we will reupload it (as 0.2.0 then)

@spica the bunnies were designed in adobe illustrator and the animation was completely done within the godot game engine - using an exploded version of the bunny, cutting out the sprites with texture regions, specifying origins and then keyframe it with an animation player along an animation tree for smooth transition between idling and walking - I will post a blog entry about the steps as soon as I have time for that!

Neat take on the match-3 and tic-tac-toe! Loved the arts andd all the tiny creatures and how happy they were when they got food!

Idea to improve for further; different levels when certain point count goes up, eg. when you get the 100p the level automatically goes to 4x3.

Great game, well ddone!

This was super polished games, just what I needed! I have been little disappointed, that there has not been more games like this. For some reason, Tiny Creatures -> Some gross bugs, bacteria and disease. This game has lots of tiny and cute creatures, I loved it!

The 30 lives felt way too much, the games tended to drag on for a very long time. Making losing more slow and difficult however made the game more relaxed and casual <3

very nice and satisfying game! love the animations and the munch mucnh-sound uwu
i had a bug? when lowering the music with the slider and selecting a level, i was only able to get one cleared veggies, after that i couldn't move the tiles at all. starting a new level did the same thing but refressing the page worked it out

Wonderful game!! Lots of fun, I almost didn't want it to end. It feels great in late game when there are so many bunnies that you're accidentally making matches without realizing.

One note: I didn't realize that my lives were going down, and was surprised when I hit game over.

Really adorable puzzler! Now I don't think the game was intended to go this long, but the spectator bunnies piled up and began lagging the game. I kept going for a bit longer and the game eventually froze. :') I'll call that a win!

A very cute game! Sometimes really wish these rabbits can eat faster. The grid locks when the rabbits are eating the row and makes the control feel a little irresponsive.

Helo,
First I'm very happy to find a game available on Android, it's an unusual platform so I tried it on my phone.

The game is great, I love the art style and the polished animation. It's a little too easy, it would have be cool having a limited time to make the best score !
Congratulations for this entry !

I ended up surviving on the first level to a point where the fps tanked, likely from too many entities. While I wasn't failing to feed the rabbits, the additional "crowd" of rabbits was gathering faster than I was clearing. The spawn rate seems to keep increasing past the point of critical mass for max uptime on all 12 of the "demand" nodes. It was about 2-3 fps in the screenshot (on web build)

Such a good idea for a simple puzzle game like this. Sliding the tiles around into place is fun and the little animals are cute, nice job!!

I loved the game! The tiny bunnies were so cute and I loved the animations! I appreciate having enough lives to keep playing even when the right veggies aren't available, however 30 was a lot! I didn't play a whole game because it would have dragged on a long time but I really enjoyed the time I spent playing it!

Really good game with a lot of polish! I liked the approach of having the bunnies come up on the side and having to rotate the field  Unfortunately it can be easy to get softlocked if they all want carrots and you only have two :sob:

This game is so addictive! It's a new take on the rubik's cube or match-3 games, I don't know, but you can play this forever. Oh, that crunchy sound! As a mobile developer, I highly approve of this game ;) Simple and effective! Great job, team :)

Oh man, actually taking my hat of to whoever made the music loop, throughout the whole time it never annoyed me and it was still kinda vibing me even after 10 (?) mins of playing. I decided to stop at this point, because I think this is why you're not supposed to feed the wild animals :D cool game!

Lovely game! I think having difficulty labels for the different board sizes would help explain things for new players, or a label for which is recommended for playing for the first time, as it was a bit confusing having to pick from the list the first time 😅 I had great fun though!

This is VERY fun, I played it for wayyyy longer than I expected :P The music is chill and energizing at the same time, the graphics very cute, and the gameplay is simple but very nice and addictive.
Congratulations on a very polished game!

:rabbit: Soooo lovely! :rabbit:

I tried three different levels and spent quite a while playing, and although it's true that eventually it may become repetitive the mix of time management and sliding match-3 is way too addictive for my brain. I could have easily played another round or ten, but I'm already seeing bunny-shaped shadows as I type.

Graphics were super cute, and the overall level of polish was very high. I noticed you're not being rated for audio, but the music track was equally fitting, cheerful and catchy.

One of my favourite entries for sure, congrats!! :D

Nice little game, very polished and easy to understand. I wonder if it would be better if each bunny want always the same vegetables so you can plan in advance? Also, on my machine it freezes after 2-3 minutes - I played the browser version in Vivaldi under Windows.

Hey wow, this is a cool idea! It's like a combination of a "serving orders in time" type of game (like Overcooked, etc) plus a matching game. The graphics are on point, there's lots of little subtle animations and stuff here which are great and add a lot of polish. I especially liked the cursor with eyes. :)

I will say it was a little frustrating sometimes when a bunny wanted something but I just didn't have enough to fill out a whole row. The only way to replace vegetables is to have another bunny eat them, so sometimes you end up just being at the mercy of hoping another bunny shows up that wants something you have, which can be frustrating since it's a little random. Maybe if you expand on this game, it would be cool to have other mechanics that could replace the vegetables in a different way as well?

Overall this is a great entry. I love that you included a bunch of different variants / difficulty settings. Thanks for making this!
