Tinymon by aligator

[raw]
made by aligator for Ludum Dare 56 (COMPO)

The idea was to create something like a very simple version of a well known Nintendo game.
But each player creates its own Tinymon and you can fight against the creatures of the other players!

I didn't get as far as I imagined, mostly due to the need of a extra server, so not much fancy effects etc... but hey, it is playable somehow :-)

Controls: 1. Click "New Creature" 2. Draw your creature (top left can be used to change the color) 3. Select a name and an Element 4. Start Playing (you may save the displayed code to continue later with the same Tinymon!) 5. WASD - There are always 5 enemy creatures (if possible - creatures, other players created) 6. Fight - there are some rules which Element-Creatures can better fight with which other Element-Creatures.

Fun game!
I really liked the idea of creating your own creatures and fighting other players' creatures! I don't understand how it works, but it's still fun and playable! πŸ˜„

Great job! πŸ‘

Very interesting. You're taking a risk allowing the players to draw haha, I really like the concept. gj!

I can not remember games where player actually draws his character except Drawfull or like that. It must be very fun in online game. I love this idea.

Interesting idea, I'm always amazed by developers who take the risk of making an online game (even if it's asynchronous) for a Ludum Dare ! Great job !

Online jam games have all my respect, congrats! I guess that it could use some sort of balance, and it seems that ie. water always win over fire no mater the attacks so no wonder why almost other players had water creatures xD I am not sure if exploring the map has some incentive, as I got away a bit from the center but only found desert. Other than that nice entry, congrats!

@island-jam-2-group-3 Thanks, no there is not really a map, as I had no time for it.
My initial idea was that you wander around and randomly run into tinymons, when running through grass, (similar to pokemon).
But as I had no time left, it only spawns 5 tinymons in the near area... So currently there is no point in running far away.

Really like the concept! Although I'm not a huge fan of Pokemon-like games and async games in general, the multiplayer aspect of this game is amazing and I'd definitely keep developing it. Good work!

I kind of see what you wanted to do here - and it is kindof playable. I didn't realize first that you had to bring your own graphics and draw your own creature.
It is cool to see the other player's creatures, and it gives you a bit of a communal feeling =)

While it's neat being able to see other people's drawings, there doesn't seem to be much actual gameplay here. I sure showed "pepperoni" who's boss, though.

Being able to add your own art is neat, but being able to see what other people have drawn is what makes this game really interesting!
The combat isn't all that fun, but a very cool idea overall!

Great work having an online element in a jam game! I think I ran into a bug on my first try where everything was placeholder art and the combat didn't work. My second try I actually got to play with my creation and see what others had done. Very cool!
