EDIT: I figured it out, I'm dumb!
(in a good way)
Nice game with good pacing, but I feel that I don't have much of a control over situation. Like do my actions actually can stop them at least a bit? If so I don't feel it :(
I am just pointing out what could be better but not saying it should be already
- Really fun game. The gameplay idea of burning little creatures with the magnifying glass is a great combo of something everyone knows, but no one has made a game about
- I felt there was a lot of personality in the game, from the sound design to the aesthetics
- The choice to do a paper cutout style of art was really really smart. I really felt like I was holding a magnifying glass interacting with little magical paper people. Plus it made the art style pop
- Addicting gameplay loop
What could be improved:
- after a few seconds I got the hang of it, but it felt weird that to hit the paper people with the light you actually want to shine it at their feet, not on them directly
- It was unclear if I was really doing the right thing. Checking afterwards I saw that the bar at the top was something I didnt want to fill up, but it was the only thing I could make increase. Maybe some kind of score to show that burning the people was the right thing to do?
- Honestly, having all of the little paper people spawning like crazy was something that turned on the ole dopamine. it sucks that you dont want that to happen, I wish there was some reward for letting them spawn faster.
- The gameplay was fun, but very static. It takes a long time to kill the paper people, and I wish there was some way to speed it up to keep up with the increased pace, or maybe increase the size of the hit area to kill more at once.
- I wasnt really sure if burning down the buildings was something I was supposed to be doing or not. I get now that they use them to hide, but it would have been nice to have some more concrete feedback
The only thing is, I felt the concept hadn't been exploited “enough”:
- I couldn't move the magnifying glass up (but maybe it was intended that it couldn't move down?), which made the gameplay a bit static.
- On higher levels, for example, I couldn't get several targets to burn at the same time (combo), even when they were close together.
- I also expected the fire to spread to the nearest targets, but I don't get the impression that this isn't possible.
- I found that it took a long time to burn the targets (and the buildings, even longer!).
As a result, the more things there are to burn (tiny creatures or buildings), the less I feel I can win or turn the game around.
I really think this game would be a lot more fun with small improvements, because the game concept is sooo good!
I really, really miss a kill/time counter in the game so that I could set records :)
The gameplay quickly feels stale though. You just end up following these creatures with your mouse. With some variation this game could get quite addicting! Something like lingering flames on the ground or multiple focus points, just as quick ideas :)
The sound design really ramps up that feeling of chaos
Some kind of upgrades for the magnifying glass would have been good, or maybe needing to get the right angle to get more power.
At the later stages when people rapidly pop in, it was very satisfying but then immediately frustrating i couldn't burn them fast enough.
Overall a fun use of the theme and a good entry.
A very creative idea!
A great way to unleash your sadistic side (without hurting anyone).
This could become something much bigger in the future.
The only complaint: At a certain point the tiny creatures spawn becomes humanly impossible to keep up with. A tweak to this calculation and everything will be perfect.
Congratulations!
I did find myself wishing for more actions to perform in the game. Perhaps adding the ability to upgrade my magnifier or introducing unique abilities could bring more excitement and allow for a bit more chaos.
Nice work!
Really good job, keep it up !
