Blob stomp by Noobman64

[raw]
made by Noobman64 for Ludum Dare 56 (COMPO)

Have you squished any Blobs today? Its satisfying like popping a zit. Its therapeutic like acupuncture. For the low low cost of 2 minutes of your time you may experience the wonder and pleasures of Blob stomping. It reduces stress, it restores confidence, it cures baldness!!!

  • Does not actually cure baldness. Blob Stomping is not approved by the FDA. Consult with your physician before partaking in extensive stomping. If your Blob lasts for more than 48 hours, please contact NASA *

Its just a tiny game about stomping tiny creatures. You get 6 seconds in 3 levels to squish some Blobs. It won't blow you away but it will only take a couple of minutes to experience. Built with Godot 4. Audacity, Piskel, Gimp and so many YouTube tutorials

The itch.io version is working for me (windows 11, Firefox and chrome). I uploaded the same file here and its not working so I'm not sure what's going on with that. Linux version is not tested but should work. Please let me know if you are a Linux user. The file named "20241005LDLittlecreaturesSource.zip" is the source. It has all the scripts Godot stuff and "art" assets

Another Ludum Dare and I'm here uploading my game seconds away from the deadline again! This is my first time successfully submitting a game made with Godot. As usual a lot of Ideas were abandoned due to poor time management. I was hoping to have the player buy upgrades between the levels. The blobs would have health and the stomp would have had cool-down but it was not meant to be. I ran out of time for music but I got a few sound-effects in before the time ran out. I don't know how you wizards do it but I've never had time to finish my list. Anyway I'm off to take a break but I look forward to coming back and playing your beautiful games. Thanks for taking a look at my page and I hope you play my game before leaving :)

@mode-0x13 I'm so glad you liked the humor. I never know if a joke will land until after the game is done. Thanks for the feedback ^.^

Simple concept - good execution - and a funny (existential) commentary at the end made me smile. Welcome to the world of game development! Hope to see more games from you.

It's a cute game, I like the meteor ending! In the universe's scale, we truly are all tiny creatures... (I haven't found the other ending yet.)

I also find it a bit funny that the blobs will always try to summon a demon to get rid of me no matter whether or not I stomped any blobs in the any of the levels. I guess they just feel intimidated by the ominous hovering giant foot, lol

a fun and funny game that gave me a couple of minutes of pure pleasure! 😄 Destroying blobs reminds me of the pleasure of popping pimples, and the ending of the game will make you think about the scale of the universe! The controls are simple and safe, the graphics are cute. Despite its simplicity, the game copes well with stress relief.

@ramchops-games Thank you for playing my game and thanks for taking the time to leave the kind feedback! Are you sure the Blobs were trying to summon a demon to destroy you? I wonder what would happen if someone loaded the game on a fresh browser page and didn't step on any Blobs for 3 levels ;)

@sviborg Thank you for the kind words! That's exactly What I was going for. I'm not a skilled game developer so I go for basic concepts. Hearing that people got a couple of minutes of simple fun out of my game is very rewarding for me.

@atahan Thanks for playing my game! I'm glad folks play long enough to notice the "twist". I needed a way to end the game. Originally I wanted to have a world devouring monster like Cthulhu show up but as you can tell, my artistic skills leave much to be desired so I opted for a humble asteroid in the end, haha

Fantastic ending! I like the image you picked as the cover--that blood with the smile sprite is very good.

@hubol Thanks for playing my game, I'm glad you liked the ending! I always run out of time when I participate in Ludum Dare, so I panic and upload a sprite from the game as the thumbnail/cover. In retrospect, it wouldn't have taken much time to take a screenshot of my game instead. Oh well, it doesn't look sexy but I like my little puddle of blood too :)

fantastic ending

very simple mecahnics but the humor and vibes go a long way

more music or SFX would help as well

Super fun and simple game! The humor definitely makes it stand out, and the ending caught me off guard. Adding some more sound effects or music would make it even better. It’s a quick and satisfying stress-buster. I really enjoyed it!

Nice game, idea is neat. Some more polish on the squishing would be nice, but a solid entry!

@diabolical-sloth Thanks for taking the time to play my game! I agree, I wish I had added some music. That's one of those things I always run out of time for

@nazariglez Thanks for the kind words! I agree, I had recorded a few more sound effects (which are in the source code zip) for missing your stomps that I didn't get to use.

@thomas-bringer Thanks for taking the time to try out my game, I appreciate the kind words

@sdcorpse Thank you, thank you! :3

I like how, despite its simplicity, the game relaxes you. And yes, what a relief that all the Blobs made it through unharmed (thanks to the stunt doubles)! It was funny!

@ecaterina Thank you for noticing! Yes I didn't want the players to feel bad about hurting them. More importantly, the Blobs have a strong union and I didn't want them getting hurt on set while doing their own stunts. The lawsuits would have bankrupted me :)

Very good game! I enjoyed all of the humour injected into it! Very glad you managed to get the little Blob sound effects in, it really adds to it!

@nonnen Thank you, I'm so happy you liked the game! Normally, sound is the last thing I work on and most of my LudamDare attempts have no sound or music. However this time, very early on I realized I need to make the stomping more satisfying for it to work at all. Adding sound seemed like the best way to do it.

I'm ashamed of how much I enjoyed stomping the blobs. Love how the story escalates VERY QUICKLY. I'd play 20 more levels of this!

@samuel-fine Thank you for the kind words! I was going for the "guilty pleasure" of popping a zit or some bubble-wrap. My game doesn't really have depth so I felt like I should keep it short and give it a dramatic ending to hold the player's attention. :)

Lovely idea and story, could have been nice to have a way of doing a time-trials version with a score system, allowing us to play the game for longer!

@exa Thanks for playing my game and thanks for the pupper :3

@daniel-finch Thank you, that's a good suggestion! I wanted to go for something super quick that everyone would finish before it overstayed its welcome, but an optional longer level would have been good :)

Ahaha, I love this! Such a funny little game. The writing is hilarious, and the sounds were great. I loved the ritual at the end. I wish I were able to fullscreen it on the web version, I had to just zoom in really far. Very cool!
