Space Critter Rescue Mission by pvg

[raw]
made by pvg for Ludum Dare 56 (COMPO)

Summary

A Vertical Shoot-Em-Up

Instructions

  1. Shoot the enemy ships to bust them into their constituent critters.
  2. Catch the critters in bubbles to rescue them.
  3. Profit?

Controls

Arrow keys to move left and right. Z to shoot lasers. X to launch a bubble.

(Alternatively, AD to move, space for lasers, ctrl for bubble.)

Background

I had a day to work on a jam project, and I wanted to make an old-fashioned vertical shoot-em-up. I thought I would have more time and imagined adding different kinds of critters and ships... but that's just how it goes some time. It's a short game, but I hope it brings some joy to your day.

Cool game! It gets difficult very fast 😅. I liked the dynamic of having to balance shooting the enemies while trying not to hit the creatures. Good work!

@missingpixel Thanks for checking it out! I had thought about adding more negative impact for shooting the critters, but given my time constraints, I hoped just a sad sound would be an adequate deterrent :)

Yeah, @sdcorpse, I think you and I are thinking in the same direction. If I had more time, that's where I wanted to go with it: a little more structure to levels, a little more intrigue from the critters themselves. Time constraints on a jam are a mixed blessing! I hope the little project inspires some other folks. Cheers!
